The main reason that I freeze tracks is to prevent regenerating a different version of the tracks.

I find it cumbersome, when a track is frozen, that you have to remember to unfreeze it, when adding an intentional rest/hold or a change in bar settings, for the change to take affect.

I imagine that this was intended, but I wonder how many others might think the primary use of freezes should be to prevent a change to the track's version, and not to prevent the types of changes that were made on purpose.
