As Bob says above the ALL column was designed for use with Midi Tracks but can be used also for Audio and Audio/Midi Mixes. I use this slider when I have a satisfactory Mix but the overall sound level is causing input clipping as can be observed in the VU metres or (in my case) the TripleComp plugin. Rather than adjust all the individual track sliders it is easier to lower the ALL column slider.
