I had BIAB 2021 copy a regenerated RT from the Soloist track to a Utility track. Appeared as audio...no problem there. But....I can no longer use F5 to mute and unmute that Utility track at various measures in my song. And the previous mutes and unmutes from the original RT soloist track are now ignored
Is this normal Utility Track behavior or am I missing something?
I'm also 'exploring' Utility tracks as my latest Opus requires 10 tracks so I used Utility for the extras BUT AFAICT they do not show up in F5 so useless to me for 'arranging'. They don't follow shots or holds either, I believe. So for now it's 2 separate SGUs and wav tracks from each to DAW like it always was. Maybe 2022 will bring more 'usability' to what is a great idea.
Old Guys Rule.The older I get,the better I was! BB2023 ULTRA, 1013, Win 7 and 10
< Is this normal Utility Track behavior or am I missing something? > Yes and yes...
It's normal and it's an improvement over Bar Settings muting/unmuting.
With the introduction of Utility Tracks, Muting and unmuting a Utility track audio is accomplished by using the Editor in the Audio Editor. Highlight to select the audio region to be muted, open the editor button and select 'silence'.
It's an improvement because all of the other editing features are available. So volume changes and fade in's and out's and other features can be done within the BIAB program before being exported to a DAW. This is a better and more advanced 'arranging' feature than the Bar Settings are.
You can also mute/unmute measures of any track that will be recognized if that track is later moved to a Utility Track. Do this by selecting the first measure you want a mute to begin, open Bar settings, select the RealTracks Button, select the track to be muted, enter 1152 - Silence. Select the last Bar for the track to be muted, select the RealTracks Button, select the track to be unmuted, enter the original instrument RT number (ie: 2121 - Mandolin soloist) and exit out. Generate the track and the soloist instrument will mute and unmute and the appropriate measures that were edited in the RealTracks menu.
< They don't follow shots or holds either, I believe > In testing this morning, audio moved to Utility Tracks did follow shots, holds and rests.
Well I have just tested a short song 16 bar segment with the Utility tracks generating five different realtracks directly onto them, and with the exception of a vocal realtrack, the shots holds and rests played just fine.
This is a great addition to biab even without the ability to use F5 bar settings.
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2025, Cubase 14, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use
< This is a great addition to biab even without the ability to use F5 bar settings.>
Are you sure you'll actually miss F5 Bar settings once you're aware that the Utility Tracks Audio Editor Editor section can do all of the F5 drop down settings but do them more smoothly and precisely and allow you to edit abruptly cut off notes? Plus it provides additional features like fade-in's, fade-out's, normalizing, merging additional audio that's saved to the Audio Clipboard and create harmonies.
As Utility Tracks currently function, you can create a track on an existing Legacy Track (Bass, Piano, Drums, Guitar, Strings, Melody, Soloist) and make edits using the Bar Settings (F5), save the track as a Performance Track and move the Performance Track to a Utility Track and all edits you had made to that track will be retained when it's moved to any Utility Track.
So, in reality, you've not lost the Bar Settings (F5) functions on the Utility Tracks but actually have improved bar setting functions along with additional functions that aren't available in Bar Settings (F5).

Charlie, Thanks, and glad to see that's working out for you.
Every time I open a new session, it automatically populate repeats. I just want a clean page that I can manually write out the entire arrangement in long form.
For the life of me, I'm unable to get rid of the double bar repeats. When I see other people's screen when they start songs, their BINB does not have them.
One way is to set your repeats to ONE instead of the default THREE. Another way is to go to EDIT/SONG FORM/UNFOLD. This will turn your chart into one single linear "template" like what you are describing. Then you can add or delete bars as your arrangement requires. Sorry, I can't provide screen shots like some of the hot-shots here can, but maybe that's enough instruction. Rather easily done.

Help?
Set the number of bars you want to use and the number of choruses to 1 then save the song e.g. as 'AAAOneChorus.sgu
Then: start BiaB, open that song file, enter your chords etc, and then save the song with your preferred file name.
Rinse and repeat.
