<< 1) In BIAB (Win 2021) if I use File > Open Special > Open MIDI File >>

BIAB (Win 2021) File > Open Special > Open MIDI File (or the shortcut key F7) loads and opens the Chord Sheet populated with the chords on my system and all of the midi channels are loaded onto and play from the Melody Channel. Using this command sequence has also always worked the same in previous versions of BIAB.

. On my system, using the Open icon from the File Menu at the top of the Main Page will also open a midi file and populate the Chord Sheet using automatic chord detection.
. Using the Open File (F3) Hot Key will also open a midi file and populate the Chord Sheet using automatic chord detection.
. Left or Right clicking on the Open icon (looks like a folder) and selecting Open entire MIDI File (mid) to Melody Track opens a midi file and populate the Chord Sheet using automatic chord detection.

In the top tool bar next to the Help Tab, Window/Midi Chord Detection/Midi Chord Detection appears to me as intended for entering chords using a midi keyboard connected to the PC so it has not effect on automatically detecting midi chords.

In short, midi automatic chord detection has always worked for me but it appears to somehow have been deselected in your BIAB program.

My suggestion is to first, attempt to open a MIDI file using the F3 command to see if that activated the midi auto chord detection feature. IF not -

The setting to reset BIAB to defaults is Options\Return to Factory Settings.

I'm almost certain that midi automatic chord detection is selected by default because I have never had to set midi chord detection on or have it disabled on my system. If that's in fact true, then resetting to factory defaults should turn midi automatic chord detection on on your system as well.
