You Coulda Fooled Me on Soundcloud You Coulda Fooled Me on YouTube Here's a song with a bit of a mystery in it. It's never revealed 'what happened that night', although it does lead us to the consequences --and it does bring closure. Style is _BANK.STY (Bank 16ths-100 Banjo Bluegrass) RealTracks in song: ~596:Fiddle, Soloist Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 RealTracks in song: 1608:Guitar, High-Strung Acoustic, Rhythm Pop16ths Ev16 110 RealTracks in style: ~~598:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 Loop in Song: Percussion Loops\Loop132bpm Tambourine Quarters 4 bars.wma RealTracks in style: ~591:Banjo, Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 (Soloist) RealTracks in song: ~591:Banjo, Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 (Soloist) Loop in Song: Drums\BoomChickaEv16^01-BrsTrn,RodTrn RealDrums [in style: Samba^1-a:Sticks , b:Ride Contemporary Utility Tracks: Mandolin #599 and Fiddle #594 Samba in Bluegras? That's weird, but I'm not a fan of categories, other than for organization. The 2nd verse needed something different. Enter the high-stung guitar. The banjo solo had to be done in two parts. The first part ran out of gas so I spliced in a full tank. Bill Davis, aka Zydecoal, added the harmony and a pedal steel for the bridge. I sang and played bass –'tho' never at the same time. Thanks for listening, commenting and suggesting improvement. You Coulda Fooled MeShe used to sit behind me everyday. Oh, yeah. But if you'da asked me then I'd say, "She's not my type." Oh, what an ugly sight she was. She picked her nose and navel fuzz. C'est la vie. That's Life. But she grew into a pretty woman. Like Nature said she had it comin'. 'Though you know I'm not a fool, you coulda fooled me. Now, everyday when I get home my loneliness won't leave me alone. It hangs on tight. The sunset sorta stands so still yet my mem'ry at this moment will forget that night. But lonlely hearts will long remember our last goodbye so warm and tender. And they say I'm not a fool. You coulda fooled me. You coulda fooled me when I saw her back in grade school in the park. She was such an eyesore. So you see there's gray in these hairs. "But what about that night?" Uh-uh. Gotta run. So how can I go on so long this way. I know it must be very wrong to pray. What can this mean? It seems I hear the sirens screaming out: "See there he is, so get him," There's no doubt they're on to me. It makes no sense to run away now, 'cause I only live from day to day. Today I thought I'd be so free. Ya coulda fooled me. So maybe I should understand it -how Life could be so under-handed. Maybe I'm no fool, but-- whew-- ya coulda fooled me Cuz now I'm nobody's fool. Ya coulda fooled me. (Put me away, Judge.)

Hi Marty,
I just wrote to J&B I was the first to comment their song. and now it's the same with your song. I wanted to write something about how 'you coulda fooled me', but that is much to easy.
Still, you did! When I heard the first tones of your song, I thougt '"ah, some kind of 'Hillbilly' sound. let's see what it brings..." And so you fooled me with the lyrics. They were realy funny! Like your style of singing them. That was funny And cool too! I enjoyed that very much.
The music had some nice fx in it, like the sirin and at the end. Yes, you fooled me all along,
Hans

Really enjoyed this! Love the BAND!
Great bass sound! (again!)
Clever song. "And they say I'm not a fool. You coulda fooled me." Love the hook!
Nice arrangement. Fiddle solo was well done. Z's steel and harmonies are nice. Excellent mix.
Good job on the video, too... fun

Hey Now! That was quite a quirky little tidbit. Your imagination and creativity are up front and center on that one.
I'm with you, labeling genres only limits our options for creation and enjoyment.

Very innovative.
Was that an Alimbic bass?

Hi Marty Excellent hook and a very engaging vocal performance. I am a little concerned, though, about what the protagonist did to end up in the slammer... Regards, Leon

Bob Thank you, Bob. I thoroughly appreciate it. One of your best, great melody, words, singing. Going to be very hard to top this one. Nice going, Marty! Thanks, TuneMonger. Man, I really like that Vietnam song you just posted. Very innovative.
Was that an Alimbic bass? Thanks, Herb! I have a bunch of basses, but no Alembics. For recording I usually use (as here) a Fender P-bass. It's a '93 Stu Hamm Urge bass. I bought it new, changed the strings to flatwounds, and they're still on there.

Ha Ha - some irreverent politically incorrect genius There is a lot to unpack here <" But what about that night?" Uh-uh. Gotta run."> Come on Marty, spill the beans !! Did you have something to do with the unfortunate young ladies' demise ? You could not outrun the law and now you are being put away? Samba in Bluegrass - had a kinda Bonaparte's Retreat vibe, fun. As always, you have a unique ability to bring the story to life with your vocals . The video is great and you fooled me into thinking the runners were you The band you chose is very good. This is very funny and entertaining . loved it. cheers Gary.

Marty,
First off, a terrific write—creative, fun, with some great lines and a cool hook. Second, the musical arrangement was a perfect match for the lyric—and a great vocal that adds to the whole vibe. Love the fiddle solo; it slays. Really imaginative tune; wonderfully executed. Listened first on Soundcloud and then had the see the video—great job on that as well.
My best to you,
Deej

Rebels never kill and tell --er, I mean KISS and tell. It wasn't me, officer. I was just singing the killer's lyrics.

So how did those Brazilian guys hook up with the bluegrass guys? That in itself is a story. It's all there. Cool write, nice vocal/harmony, most interesting band and a good mix. And kudos to Bill. The BIG star here is the humor! As we mentioned at Youtube "Did he or didn't he? inquiring minds want to know" FUN! J&B

Hi Marty,
THAT WAS HUGE FUN !!!!!
A clever write wrapped in a very 'grippy' tune. Top-notch arrangement; liked your voacls a lot.

My best to you,
Deej Thanks for taking the time for both, Deej, and a very encouraging comment. Very cool tune Marty. Love the groove on this song. Super vocal. Backtrack was awesome. Well done Thanks, Scott. As for the YT question, it was answered there, proving my innocence. Thanks, Janice & Bud.

"But she grew into a pretty woman. Like Nature said she had it comin'. 'Though you know I'm not a fool, you coulda fooled me.'
That's near perfect - the melody and hook are ACE. Nice band arrangement Marty and cool bass part too. Yeah, I can't sing at the best of times but have NOT AT ANY TIME managed to do it with a bass in hand...something diametrically opposed in those for my little brain. well done.
Cheers rayc "What's so funny about peace, love & understanding?" - N.Lowe

Stay safe,
Stefan Thanks, Stefan. I've mentioned before how inspirational you are to me. Keep up the good word. SUPERB. One of the most original songs I have ever heard on here. Increasingly dark humour in there :-) - absolutely brilliant!!! Thanks, James. Not to worry about the increasing darkness. He did end up with a small window in his cell. "But she grew into a pretty woman. Like Nature said she had it comin'. 'Though you know I'm not a fool, you coulda fooled me.'

Yeah, I can't sing at the best of times but have NOT AT ANY TIME managed to do it with a bass in hand...something diametrically opposed in those for my little brain. well done. Thanks, Ray. Yeah, singing and playing bass don't match with me either. Both suffer. Seems I need my fingers to sing and my vocal cords to play bass. Thanks for mentioning the bass part. Sometimes playing just root-fourth patterns can be most challenging for me. Then to make it evolve with the song is another challenge.
