Hi Wyndham, it's good that you're getting back into making music. We've checked the 2017 version and if you right click any bar in the chords view, and select Chord Builder, this will bring up the different options for chords that can be entered into Band-in-a-Box. You can designate which note is in the root/bass position of the chord by adding a slash then the note name at the end of the chord, such as /A. There are also three different settings for voicings: Root, Closed, and Open.
For the Guitar window, click on the Settings button and here you can change the position of the Guitar to either Aeolian or Phrygian mode. The octave can also be adjusted here. These settings are just for how the Guitar window appears on screen and does not change the actual notes that are played by the tracks.
