I haven't seen anything in the manual about this. Am I able to tell soloist to solo in more than one place in my song ? I like the head-solo-head arrangement for horn soloing. The trouble is that routinely, I like to do this AND perform the 2 or 4 bar ending in the last chorus.

Midi soloists are easier. Use the Custom button in the Select Soloist screen. With RealTracks, you have to use bar settings to mute/unmute the part. This should also work with Midi parts.

Hi Rachael. If you place your mouse pointer over the Custom button (without clicking it), you'll see the balloon help text for the Custom button. It says that if I use this feature that if I have a section of bars selected (highlighted) that if I already have a solo in the song, soloist will only overwrite those selected bars.
One of three things happening here: Either the help text is wrong or the program is not working properly or I'm misinterpreting what I'm reading.

What exactly is the program doing when you try? Are you using RealTracks or Midi?

My own interpretation of what I had been reading in the book was that I could use any key on the keyboard to start / stop the soloist, and at any point in the playback.
So, what I expected to happen was this:
1. Begin playback of the tune.
2. At the place where I wanted the soloist to start, I'd press a key on the keyboard (the manual says, "... press any key ...").
3. Finally, and again at any place in the playback, I'd press a key again and the soloist would end the sole there, at that place in the tune.
So, I guess I'm misinterpreting what I'm reading and in fact, where it pertains to using the keyboard for MIDI, I'm completely lost ... so much so that to heck with this. I guess that feature I just described doesn't exist.
BTW, I've tried it RealTracks and MIDI.

The Conductor can be used to do all sorts of things such as Start/Stop play, loop, jump to a particular chorus. You can customize keys to do additional functions. It also has a feature to mute/unmute parts with the computer or Midi keypress. Check out the Conductor, you may find some things very handy to your situation.
As far as your soloist need, the only way I can see that happening is by using Mute/Unmute on the Soloist part. You could generate your solo on a part, and then mute/unmute when desired.

Rachael,
If I used soloist can I mute / unmute as the solo is playing back? If so, what keys / buttons would I need to use to do this with? Will the finished product contain mutes & unmutes -- When I save the file and return back to it, will these mutes / unmute specifics still be there?

I have found that to re-engage the mute/unmute after a save, it's necessary to unfreeze the Soloist track before generating the song. One can toggle the Soloist (during playback) between muting and unmuting by using alt+7. The mute toggle keys for the various tracks are found under Help if you search the index for "mute".

Hi Russell
To achieve what you are trying to do I use the mixer function in RealBand - make your arrangement in BIAB then open it in RealBand and with the mixer open record in real time and either mute/unmute or use the sliders to bring in/out the soloist as you require

I'm not clear if you want the mutes fixed or 'on the fly'. If fixed, use Bar Settings (F5) or RealBand. The finished product will contain the muting.
