Charlie, Am I wrong about the bass synch? I listened again and the bass definitely has those two dead spots bracketing what seems to be an out of synch section. I ask because I may well be wrong and am hearing as an error something you intended. Given that no one else seems to notice I am willing to accept insanity on the group model!

Charlie, an excellent song - the two voices belong together and your tech savvy problem solving is always a great example to others. Nice arrangement and package.
The bass is a little loud and seems to go out of synch from about 1.20 for almost an half minute. There's a pause at either end of that section as if the bass track was split & slid aat 1.18 long a bit then some snipped off at the end of it lopped off before about the 1.50 mark. There's even little notches in the Soundcloud wave graphic at those points.
Now if it was deliberate then you succeeded in building tension then resolving it but in an unusual way.

Rayc, it wasn't intended to be late and I kept playing with the bass so it was also uploaded with the volume level set too loud. Not one my better mix jobs at all... It's been several years since I uploaded a vocal project and I was careless a bit. The BIAB MultiStyle substyle for that particular part dropped the bass and some other instruments so I cut/pasted bass parts from other sections of the song, put the project aside for several hours and did not complete the action when I came back to the project and all the while thought I finished that particular edit earlier. What you're hearing is an oversite on my part before I uploaded the song. I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment and that's a good catch. Charlie

Mr. Fogle... There is something nostalgic and romantic in a bittersweet way about this duet. It summoned memories of watching male and female singing stars performing together on old television variety shows. Seeing a man and a woman singing to each other -- even if the song was sad, like yours -- seemed to validate the traditional expectations of commitment and togetherness in relationships, just because they were physically near and looking into each other's eyes in front of the cameras as they sang. Anyway, the vocals in 'I'm All Alone' were just fine, with Ms. Lanier's voice sounding especially clear and sweet. The music you composed using the country rock multistyle was the perfect vehicle for the duet presentation. And the lyrics? Classic country story-telling. Glad you pulled this one out of the drawer ! Thanks. I was pretty happy to run across this old song and I've always enjoyed Debbie's singing too. Thanks for listening.

Hello Charlie,
What nice you could retrieve that old recording and extract the vocals. You did a very good job on that. Although I think to hear a tiny electronical sound in the vocals of Debbie, it's wonderful how you can give this song and vocals a second life. Love that!
I had songs I made in 1976. they were on tape, so I couldn't do much with it. I had to remake some of them, but that is much different.
about the song itself: it's a very lovely melody and nicely sung. I agree with others who said the vocals are a bit too soft according to the instruments (bass!). If you can fix that, you have a good song again!
Hans
Thanks for stopping by to hear the song. You're likely correct with hearing electrical sounds throughout. Spleeter does a good but less than perfect stem extractions and I process the stem with eq, manual silencing between words and several filters which catches most but not all of the artifacts. The download version of Spleeter does do a better job than the online versions I've tried. Nice song ... just some production suggestions: the vocals are hard to make out clearly, you may wish to sit them more up front in your mix and back off on the effects a bit. Good use of BIAB tracks. Thanks for the tips and taking time to comment. I appreciate them. I made a few careless errors with this mix being rusty from taking too long between mixing and posting songs the last several years. Hopefully I'll get back into the groove quickly.

Great job on the vocal extraction and thanks for the details on how you accomplished it. You two had a very nice blend. As floyd said, "Your duet with Debbie easily brings to mind Shelly West and David Frizzell. In fact everything about the song sounds like one of their hits - the lyric, the melody, the BAND... like it's 1981 again!" We really miss those years ... thanks for the journey back! J&B PS: Regarding the bass sync issues I've experienced the same struggle trying to sync RT's and/or RD's to some of our early recordings. We were an all acoustic band and when recording we had no drum track and we didn't always play to a click track. The variances are not really noticeable until I started splicing/shifting tracks and then I discovered issues everywhere and the variations were not consistent. After cutting and pasting and shifting seemingly forever I bailed on the project. I'm sure that trying to sync just to a vocal track would be even harder. The patience of Job I do not possess But a nudge of that bass section twixt the 1:18/1:51 comp could make for an instant fix.
Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more. If interested search on Janice Merritt. Thanks! Our Videos

That's amazing you were able to extract the vocals and redo the arrangement and have it sound so good. That's one for tips and tricks. Great job Charlie. Much enjoyed.

I've used several different methods to extract stems but so far, I've the most pleased with the results from Spleeter. One tip if you ever try it out on an older track that's wasn't recorded to a click track is to utilize the Equalize Tempo feature of the ACW in the Audio Editor and extract that vocal stem to use in your project. It takes out some of the tedious cut/paste work. (I should have taken my own advice for the bass track) Yea, I my focus may still be off a bit but It's enjoyable to be spending time with music again. I always have enjoyed working with Debbie over the many years we've been friends and she's retired now so maybe we can develop some new projects. I'll surely revisit this mix but I'm not a paying member of SoundCloud so I can't replace this track. I don't have that many songs posted but getting a subscription may be a good idea for the future.

Charlie, Nice resurrection and probably was an interesting project. Has a neat 60s pop flavor. Solid composition and vocals. While I admire what you have accomplished in attempt to modernize it, I think vocals are a bit detached in quality from the music. If it was me, I would of tried to "vintage up" newer backing tracks a little, so it has more unity with vocals. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Misha. Thanks Misha. Yes, I really enjoy using Spleeter on old projects. Much of the work is cleaning up small artifacts left by the process but I've found the offline version to be more robust than online versions and I also avoid long queues. This was my first project in several years and there's several mix mistakes and I likely rushed through a bit more than normal. I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.
