The protools version from M-Audio is not the professional version it is a light cut down version for sale like an LE type thing.

Which one works better with BIAB and RealBand: Sonar or Cubase. I'm looking to add one or the other. Which one would be easier to learn. I have only used PowerTrack and RealBand so far. Thanks.
Maybe I can give you my perspective as one who uses Cubase 5 & Samplitude 10 pro along with more VSTi software synths than I know what to do with - AND I just love Real Band and Band in a Box. I just ordered the 2010 Ultra Pak.
I have a pretty decent PC with Windows 7 and several excellent audio interfaces to choose from. But so far, I find most of my good soft synths tend to crash both programs, so I just use my Korg Triton for midi in both BB & RB.
I'll work with BB & RB till I get some nice parts. For some instruments I'll generate several versions of the same tracks. Then I export all of the midi and RT wave files into Cubase. Then I can assign whatever soft synth(s) I want to the midi tracks, and I can manipulate the audio to make it fit whatever I need for the song. (Like replacing the last note in a solo, or silencing something that conflicts with the vocal, etc.)
Which one? I'm only familiar with Cubase, but you can download a fully functional 30 day demo from Steinberg. I think Cakewalk has something similar. These days, all of the top Sequencers are pretty close in features and sound quality.
With Cubase, several times I was ready to quit, but I kept reading the manual til I figured it out ("So THAT's how you do it.") I think most people stick with one program because of the learning curve on a new program.
Depending on what you want to do, you may find Power Tracks is perfectly adequate. (It does a few things that some of the Big Boys don't)
Work out a complete song in BB & Power Tracks - THEN do the same thing in the demo programs - Then choose.

RB is Powertracks, with BiaB features added. RB abd BiaB does almost everything i want. If I have to drop out and use another program, i use Bremmer's Audio Multitrackstudio. Best DAW on the Planet bar none. If cheap is a factor buy the boxed version of Sonar's little brother MC5 right here at PG in the product page.
