Hello Sparrow,
In the notation window, click the N button twice to toggle into "piano roll" mode (where you see the velocity and duration lines with each note). To make the note duration longer, hold down the option key, click on the note head, and drag it to the right however long you want the note to be held. Alternatively, you could type in the duration value by option-clicking on the note and not dragging.
