Status:
- I just installed BIAB 2021 on my Win10 PC.
- I have an old (never used) M-audio Axiom 49 keyboard controller.
- I bought the controller years ago new but the project got put aside and the keyboard was in storage until now.

Issues:

A - Launching BIAB I get this notice:
"Windows Audio Session Error: Could not select the default input device. The error number is -9985"

B - Launching RealBand I got 2 popup screens on the first RB launch.
I was unprepared and clicked "X" for each of the popup's.
Should have hit the screen capture key for each but in the confusion I failed to do so.
Now I can't get them back to see what info they need.

Question 1:
How can I get the 2 initial setup screens back for RealBand?

Question 2:
Should I have my M-Audio Axiom 49 controller connected and its driver installed before I launch either BIAB or RB?

Question 3: (Off topic maybe)
The CD that came with the Axiom 49 is very old (way before Win 10) so I'm guessing I need a new driver for the controller. M-Audio does not list one for the original Axiom 49.
Does anyone have any idea where I can get a driver for the old M-Audio Axiom 49?

I'm sure I'll have more questions before I can get all this to work so thanks for everyone's patience and assistance.

I did look online for video's illustrating how to connect your controller to your PC and get BIAB & RB setup to take input from the controller... but I failed to find it. If there is one a link would be helpful.

Thanks for any help.

This means Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) does not like the selected default audio driver. Select Ctrl+E to open Preferences then select the "Audio" button. Change the "Audio Driver Type" to something different. Save, exit the program then open it again. I normally start with the Audio Driver Type set to MME as that seems to be the most stable selection.

Don't know what to suggest so I'll pass.

Yes. The computer has to see an external device to attached and active before Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) or RealBand (RB) can see it. This is true for most programs that I'm familiar with.

There is no M-Audio Axiom 49 Windows 10 driver. If you plug it into a USB port and the computer says something like "Installing M-Audio Axiom 49" then BiaB and RB should list it as a MIDI driver. But, if you plug the USB connector in and the device is not recognized by your computer you're out-of-luck.

According to this there are Win 10 drivers:

There may be hope for your M-Audio Axiom 49. However, I can't find any info other then this is listed as a discontinued model over in M-Audio https://m-audio.com/products/view/axiom-49, where it states :...Class-compliant with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS X" This tells me this board is OLD.

As a point of reference, I have a Midiman Keystation 49 USB / MIDI Keyboard Controller M-Audio. Has to be over 20 years old. There is no Win 10 driver for this board despite what google claims. I would caution you regarding any site which says it will download the driver for you. Trust me, I have spent the time over the years searching and this and it does not exist in my case.

On the other hand my Keystation still works fine if you connect the midi-out port (which I assume you have) to your audio input device you can use its driver to send the midi into BIAB. We just had a long thread about this topic here in the forum.

Mario, that is a Windows 7 driver you linked to. Doesn't hurt to load and try in compatibility mode.

I was under the impression that M-Audio used Standard Windows USB Drivers and had no need for a special driver.

For RB error recovery, try looking in RBERROR.LOG file in your Realband (or Realband_X64) folder

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Scroll down and it says supported systems include Win 10 so one must assume that those drivers work in Win 10.

For the benefit of others with a similar question.

- Windows 10 installed the Axiom 49 driver for my old M-Audio Axiom 49 Controller.
- The driver on the CD that came with the Axiom 49 wouldn't install.
- So I just connected the Axiom 49's usb cable to the PC and Windows installed the driver.
- Now if I click Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, Video, & Game Controllers
I see the USB Axiom 49.

Now I have other issues but they probably merit a new thread so look for that.

And, thanks to everyone for the help in getting me going on this.
