The title says it all. I used the BiaB VST to import my song tracks into Reaper, onto separate tracks. Worked great except the Soloist track is a MIDI track even though I chose a RealTracks solo. I tried a couple of times with different soloist tracks. Do all soloist tracks import into a DAW as MIDI and not audio? (Very possible). Or am I missing something? (Very possible).

I would have to say no to that question. However, what you say has been seen in the past. Several months ago we had a tread running on this topic but I don't recall if it was resolved.
Welcome to the forums, Old Hippie! What version of Band-in-a-Box do you have and is it for Mac or Windows? And in the plugin, go to file | About, what is the version number listed there?
Mario, as I recall you were reporting similar behavior but I can't find the thread. Does this sound familiar to you? Was it resolved?
My problem was just the opposite as the drum track read MIDI on the main page but when using the VSTi it dragged over as RD. The track was a RD but I had RDs turned off on the main page so the track showed as MIDI, however the VSTi does not have that setting thus it came over as RD.
It was resolved by either drag and drop the chart/MIDI on the drum track in the VSTi or drag and drop the entire song as a mid via the main page.
Similar but not identical to this problem.
PS - I wonder if it is the same problem. Maybe the VSTi expects the soloist track to be MIDI so when one drags the master into the DAW it drags the MIDI track and not the RT. He may have to drag the RT's wav separately into his DAW, the wav would be on the right side of the VSTi on the soloist track. If time permits I'll check this out later today.

Thanks for weighing in Mario. I think I now understand a little better what Old Hippy is saying. My understanding is - in general (meaning most of the time), any track in the BIAB-VST would have both midi and Audio available for D&D to the DAW:
.....A midi track will generally have rendered Audio available .....A RT will generally have transcribed Midi available.

That was part of the answer. Thanks for helping me make progress! When I drag the Soloist track as a .wav from the right side of the VST, Reaper does actually import the file as a sound file, a .wav; however, in BiaB, the soloist track was a RealTrack fiddle; it imports as an acoustic piano, not a fiddle. Wrong instrument.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!
Your killing us... ( well of course, not you personally) Can you provide the exact name of the style or RT that does this. Or can you upload the .mgu file so we can focus on a problem file and confirm this aberrant behavior.
1112 Fiddle, Background Country Swing SW1110 (Kenny Sears) chosen and plays as soloist track in BiaB but is imported as Acoustic Grand Piano 72 into Reaper DAW.
All kidding aside, I really appreciate your help!
PS: I know how to upload but not sure how to upload an MGU file.

I don't think you can upload an MGU or SGU file (any longer?). Many users upload to Dropbox or similar and then provide a link to download from.

You can't upload a MGU or SGU anymore. But you can add the extension txt to it and it will upload. Something like songtitle.mgu.txt. All the receiver does is delete the .txt and load the mgu file into BiaB.

OK, here is your Style and Soloist Fiddle in the BIAB-VST ready to drop into Reaper. It is all looking and sounding fine.
I am not fully sure of your workflow but here is mine.
In this case, I started this song in BIAB from the Style you recommended. Next I added the soloists from the RT picker. I see the soloist is a RT audio but also has transcript midi. All sounded fine in BIAB. But if I now close BIAB and then open the .mgu file in BIAB-VST... the soloist is not present! So while still in my BIAB-VST (within Reaper) I added the soloist. Regenerated and all was now fine.
I can't really explain more than that at this time. My conclusion is: There are three or four ways to work in BIAB and transfer files to your DAW. However, not all of them will give you the results you expect. In this case the fact is the BIAB .mgu and the BIAB-VST file are not 100% compatible, which is something we already know.
Lets see if any other folks know of something different.
That seems to work. It generates a Soloist track that plays the whole way through the song instead of just in the solo spots, but of course, the track can be cut up to play only where I want it. I'll take it!
