Hi guys! I haven't really been playing too much, and hence, not using Band In A Box that much, so maybe I missed something along the way. Currently, I'm laying down tracks for our Ministry's music book for us in our home fellowships. I have a problem that I'm hoping I can get resolved.
The song I'm recording is a 9/8 song, and there are only MIDI styles for that song. That's not a problem. I'm using 9/8ORK.sty, and it's a very sparse style. I have three choruses, and on the second and third chorus I'd like to fill in the melody a bit with some harmonies. Now, the Harmonies play on playback, in BIAB, but I want to export the song to Cakewalk so that I can record it to audio. In the Save Special/Save as a MIDI File, I've checked the Save Harmonies and also Write the Harmonies to a separate track.
It doesn't save the data.
To double check this, I've opened the MIDI file and the .MGU file in RealBand, and it doesn't work there, either. Nothing is saved as far as the harmonies go.
I really would like to be able to use this feature on this song. I'm really bad at playing in 9/8, and trying to play chords for this song is not going to go well for me.
Any help I can get would be appreciated, and I wonder if PG Music would see if they can replicate the problem. I'm including the .mid file with this. I've also tried this in both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of BIAB, and neither will do anything.
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!
Matt, I'm sorry, I meant to put that in there. Yes, BIAB 2021, latest build, downloaded and installed today. Problem existed before the update and afterwards.
Yeah, I've been having an 'interesting' life, and not always time to sit down and make music.

Matt, Windows 10, 20H2 and yes, 840. I attempted the harmonies before and after the installation of 840. It made no difference. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to allow me to upload a .mgu file, or I'd post the original file.

The ability to attach a BIAB song again has been requested. In the meantime, Gary, maybe create a free Dropbox account, post the song in the public area, and give us the link?
And I’m sure you first tried Options, Return to Factory Setting, Most (even though this is a new installation).
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
Gary you can attach a BiaB file if you add an extension to the name. For instance if the song is titled songtitle.mgu then you would add a .txt extension to it so it would become songtitle.mgu.txt. All we have to do is to delete the .txt and we can use the song.
Not elegant but it works.
The bumper sticker said "I'm a veterinarian, therefore I can drive like an animal". Suddenly I realized how many proctologists are on the road.
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2025, Cubase 14, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use
Well, we're not getting anywhere quickly. First, I've attached the .mgu file as a .mgu.txt file. Please remove the '.txt' to get it to work correctly. Next, I did a factory reset. That didn't do anything as far as what I wanted it to do. The harmonies still function correctly in the song, but exporting it to a midi file, even with save the harmonies and write the harmonies to their own tracks, doesn't do anything. The harmonies don't get written to a midi file.
Here's the funny thing, though. I took another .mgu that I had, mostly midi, changed out the style to a Real style, except for the melody, and then added harmony to the melody. I saved the file as a midi file, and the harmonies were there. I'm going to have to go back and play with this Blessed Assurance, maybe re-record it, and see if I can't get it to work.
However, if anyone else plays with it, and finds it doesn't work for them, I'd like to hear it. If it DOES work for you, I'd like to hear that, too.
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!
