I seem to have missed what the specific problem is here. Was that ever revealed?

Well, I guess you "will just have sit and wait" while I, and many others continue to use, and enjoy this less than perfect software...

Thanks WineRider, we appreciate your patience.

WineRider's original issue was that, starting with build 840, his guitar tuner stopped working. This is something that at least one other person has reported, however from testing in-house none of us are experiencing this issue. After some troubleshooting, the other user reported that they plugged their guitar into input 2 of their interface and the tuner didn't work, but when plugged into input 1 it worked - perhaps this could help WineRider?

WineRider - could you provide us with the following information:

  • Please right click on the Start menu and choose Run, then enter in winver and press enter. What version number and build number are showing here? The latest version is 21H1 - recent versions include 20H2, 2004, 1909, 1903...
  • What are your computer specs - CPU type, amount of RAM, etc.
  • What type of audio interface are you using?

Here are a few things to try:

  • Plug into a different input on your interface - Input 1 should work, while others may not.
  • Try switching audio driver type in BIAB: Go to Options > Preferences > Audio, and tell us what is selected for Audio Driver Type, then try switching between the options there.
  • Try resetting BIAB to default settings: Go to Options > Return To Factory Settings. If it asks you to choose between MOST or ALL, choose MOST.
  • Open your BB folder, then go to Data/Backup/Builds - in here you'll find backed up EXE files from any updates you've had installed. Try copying bbw64_2021.0.0.838.exe into your BB folder then run it, and see if the tuner works there.

Oui, difficile à croire. En fait, ce n'est probablement pas lié au BIAB mais c'est une fonction du périphérique audio !

True, though ours is built in to BIAB, so why not use it?

Most likely. The only other user who reported having this problem solved it by changing which input he was using. As it's not at all a widespread issue, we can only speculate what the issue is for WineRider. He's tried switching audio device driver types as well as resetting BIAB, none of which helped.

Now WineRider has decided to throw in the towel and wait to see if a future update solves the issue for him, so I suppose that's case closed for this thread.

Yes Simon you are right. I just used it for the first time and it works great. I just think the original post is a bit harsh for a secondary function. Congratulations to PG Music.

But I have to wonder "Why?"

Is this not just a symptom of trying to put everything including the kitchen sink and a pizza oven into one package, thereby making it more complex to maintain?

I often puzzle over the logic of ordinary tracks and "utility tracks". Why on earth are they not all ordinary tracks?

I can certainly see the logic of separating out audio from MIDI, but why not do exactly the same thing for all tracks?

I also agree with you 100%! The product suffers from years of adding fluffy features that don't improve the core genius that is this software. RealTracks are BRILLIANT. I SIMPLY CANNOT SHOUT THAT LOUD ENOUGH! But "49 new feature-itis" makes it increasingly harder and way less enjoyable to use this software. Frustration builds as new features with true potential like additional mixer tracks are delivered with big limitations. (And then comes the inevitable conversation about maybe making them into full featured tracks in the next paid upgrade! Sheesh! More mixer tracks was a great idea but finish them before releasing them!) In my time here I've seen new features with great potential seemingly unfinished or at least never fully developed (UserTracks.) And I've seen features added that seem like they belong in a separate utility program or maybe a free website (song title generator.)

I understand marketing and feeling the need to have something Really Big to use in the campaigns. But this software and RealTracks IS TRULY AWESOME AND A REALLY BIG DEAL! I hope PGM will start to focus exclusively on features that directly enhance and improve on this major strength of the program.

New RealTracks in modern music styles by NEW musicians? EXCELLENT ADDITION!

More Brent Mason RealTracks? Nope. He is amazing but we already have plenty, thank you very much.

More full function mixer tracks? EXCELLENT ADDITION!

Utility tracks that cannot work like existing tracks? Nope. That's an unfinished feature IMHO.

True bar-by-bar regenerate-in-place? EXCELLENT ADDITION!

DAW Mode? Nope. It is 2021. Your customers know how to resize a window and drag things to their DAW. No need for a non-standard window mode feature that confuses everyone.

Better search tools for RealTracks? EXCELLENT ADDITION!

Guitar tuner? Nope. I have a drawer full of them and 100s of websites and mobile phone apps that do that better.

Greatly improved tool for finding styles that match a song/artist? EXCELLENT ADDITION! So many times I'll type in an artist/song and get hundreds of suggestions, none of which sound even remotely like the artist/song.

Song title generator? Nope. Again, so many free resources out there that this is just not needed in BIAB.

I am honestly not trying to be overly critical or picky. Just sharing a few of the frustrations of using this product. And honestly hoping PGM will dedicate their future upgrade efforts to the parts that make this software TRULY GREAT!

I all too frequently vent here some of my frustration with BiaB, but I must concur.
This is a great tool.
However it often makes my head hurt.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
