John, swapping the case is a very simple procedure, trust me. You have been around a long time, so do you have a 2018 or 2017 drive. I believe the company will send a replacement, but this certainly is the quickest possible fix to get you up and going with 2021.

Have you tried everything that has been suggested thus far?

Once I had to open my BiaB HD, unplug it, then plug it back in to get the drive working. It had come loose during shipping.

yes. The issue with the drive is that it disappears from file explorer after a couple of minutes of plugging in.

I've tried all the suggestions, except opening the drives which I'm not capable of doing and which could get my 2020 to stop working. . Nothing has worked except my own idea of reinstalling 2020 to get SOMETHING working. 2021 has been down for 7 days for me and no one at PGMusic has any sense of urgency about it.

Are you able to enlist the assistance of a friend or colleague who might be able to undertake any tasks that you can't?

Another point of interest. Do you recall if the drive might have been dropped or had some other physical shock? That could potentially cause the issue you are experiencing.

I had last years Biab Seagate drive fail and do the same, I took the drive out the case and hooked it up direct to the SATA connection but still the same issue, it had to be formatted again to fix.

That is good news that you have tried all but one suggestion. Thus I would have to agree with you that the drive is either defective or it came loose during shipping.

"I've tried all the suggestions, except opening the drives which I'm not capable of doing and which could get my 2020 to stop working" I'm not suggesting that you change drives. What I did was to open the BiaB drive external case, unplug the drive from the controller, then plug it back into the same controller. PGMusic suggested this and in my case it worked. It is a simple thing to do and IMHO worth a try. If you are worried about your warranty contact PGMusic. YMMV

This has happened to a few of us over the years, caused apparently by shipping.

Just try it.

While you're doing that, I think I'll write a country song "Some of Them Trucks".

Happened to me as well. Took maybe two minutes to open the case up, plug the connection firmly back together and close it up. I'm pretty handy, but this was honestly a 1 out of 10 on a technical skill level. So I'd recommend trying a reseat of the existing case before doing a case swap.

C'mon guys! Ease up some. I understand the desire to help but repeating advice the user has stated he will not perform isn't working.

User John Temmerman has repeatably stated he is not comfortable opening the external drive case. That should be the end of that discussion. He should not have to repeat multiple times that he has reached the limit of his troubleshooting capability.

There are multiple reasons why John is not comfortable opening the external hard drive case. Perhaps his eyesight is bad. Perhaps he is a stroke victim and is impaired. Perhaps he has arthritis and has difficulty handling objects. He may not have a screwdriver with a Phillip's bit small enough to fit into the heads of the teeny, tiny screws. The reason why shouldn't matter.

John, you need to directly speak with PG Music Support to resolve your issue. Fellow users do not have the capability to replace your external hard drive.

I concur. While we on the forums are generally a techy bunch, not everyone is. The non-techy people shouldn't be pushed out of their comfort zone (too much).

I've got a support session scheduled for Wednesday with John, so I'll be doing some further testing on the drive.

Just send him a new one already, like I said I got 2020 and it failed and had to use 2019 until 2021 came out. It stressed me reading all this that I was just going to buy him one and have it sent out.

Simon,

Thanks for sharing the news a support session is scheduled. That is good news.

PG Music has a sterling reputation for customer satisfaction so I'm confident John's hard drive issue will be resolved. Please update this thread after Wednesday's session.

I simply suggested that if he was not comfortable, if he could enlist assistance from someone else to help him.

It's worth remembering that although most of us can't write code that would make BIAB work, some of the things connected with PCs are no more complicated than changing the fuse in a mains plug.

So, a quick fix that would probably get the OP up and running is not an unreasonable suggestion.

Simon says "I've got a support session scheduled for Wednesday with John, so I'll be doing some further testing on the drive."

Maybe Simon can talk the OP through the reseating process. The drive isn't working at the moment so nothing lost if the fix fails or even trashes the drive. PG can always send a new one but the OP wants to get up and running as fast as possible.
