When i record and sing with my microphone, I cannot hear my voice back in the headphones.
How do you turn on monioring? I searched high and lose.

I can't believe BB would be missing such a vital feature. Makes it useless to me.

Welcome to the forums Screwloose! Are you using the Mac or Windows version? Band-in-a-box does not have live input monitoring, but if you are using the windows version, RealBand does have this feature.

In RealBand go to Options | Preference | Audio (tab). Then make sure the Enable Input Monitoring checkbox is checked.

Also, your audio interface may offer direct monitoring through the audio interface headphone jack. Direct monitoring blends your input and the computer audio output together so you can hear both the computer output and your audio input in sync with each other. Some audio interfaces even have a knob to adjust how much of each audio stream is heard through the headphone jack.

Thanks! That is very disappointing. Guess BB will go back into archives.

Welcome to the forum.

As BIAB was designed for generating accompaniment tracks, and the free bundled RealBand was designed for other parts of song production like recording (as you would do in any DAW), I don't see this as a problem with BIAB. For many years it only had one audio track, for convenience. If you want to do live recording, other software tools are better anyway, or as mentioned, you can solve it by using hardware with direct monitoring.

BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

I agree. Any program that records audio should have monitoring.

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

It's not the program. It's your hardware and how you set it up. If you're using an onboard audio chip there's a chance it doesn't do that.

I have a Focusrite interface and there's a control dashboard where all that is set up.

I open my DAW (Sonar) and it simply works like it's supposed to. I go into BB and on the rare occasions I use the record function in there, I also hear everything I need to hear in real time because it's going through the Focusrite which is running in full duplex mode.

Hopefully you're also using ASIO.
