Trying to figure/understand all the permutations.  I can't really follow the logic as stated, but that could be just me. But if #2 always overides #1, then why do we need #1? Imagine (there's that word again  ) you have made many changes to different instruments over many bars and you then want the entire band to snap together. Just select 'Back To Normal' in (1) and nothing else.
