Does anyone know if there is a list of the hierarchy/order of precedence in the Bar Settings (F5) feature (save me from trying every permutation).
ie: All Inst vs Individual Inst. Does a command in All always override Individual for all options?

It's and interesting question, and one for which I don't know the answer.

I would have presumed that the individual settings were cumulative, and 'All Instruments' would override individual instruments, but I haven't tested either.

Easy way would be to try it... in the middle of a project, so I can't do it.

Cheers,

OK, this is the order that things happen in:

Whatever the setting is in (1) is overridden by whatever the settings are in (2)

Very good. Just curious, did you try this in both orders? Sometimes the second thing you do overrides the first. If you do changes in the 2 area, then 1, does the same result happen?

Matt,

Unless PG Music has changed things All Instruments should always over ride the individual track settings. I sometimes use All Instruments as a "shortcut" to change settings when I want to get all the tracks to return to normal when some, but not all have a volume change or are muted.

Right - since you and Videotrack are saying the opposite, I think some more experiments are in order.

Speaking from my point of view, VideoTrack and I appear to be saying the same thing.

I tried several ways, including a 3rd way just in case.
First I set All Instruments to 'Back to Normal'(1), and set the Drums to Mute(2). All instruments played except the drums.

Then I set the Drums to 'Back to Normal'(2) and set All Instruments to Mute(1). Only the drums played.

I also set All Instruments 'Back to Normal'(1) and Drums 'Back to Normal'(2). As expected, everything played.

My further experimenting showed that items selected in (2) always overrode the item selected in (1).

Trying to figure/understand all the permutations. crazy I can't really follow the logic as stated, but that could be just me. crazy But if #2 always overides #1, then why do we need #1?

BTW, in over 20 years of use, I have never even thought of using #1. grin

Imagine (there's that word again wink ) you have made many changes to different instruments over many bars and you then want the entire band to snap together. Just select 'Back To Normal' in (1) and nothing else.

I'm lost. Above you said the setting in #1 is overridden by the settings in #2. So how can a later change in #1 snap the entire band together?

Scenario:
I create a song with many <F5> settings changes on different bars:
On Bar 3 the piano is muted
On bar 4 the drums volume is increased
On bar 13 the guitar is faded per bar
On bar 19 the piano is brought back in, and the bass volume is decreased
etc.

On bar 24 I want everything to play together as normal. If I could remember all the changes I had made, I could program them back individually, or I could simply press option #1 (Back to Normal for All Instruments) and I don't need to make any other changes #2.

I guess I should have stated that in my testing, if you don't place any settings in item #2, then only the settings in item #1 are used. Hope this clarifies.
