I guess the nurses will be safe Don!

One place I play they spend the day dodging a guy with a huge Dublin accent who's about 70 and has lost it. He grabs them every chance he gets and I said to one of the really good looking ones, "can I get away with that too..?" Her reply was I could play her piano, and a pat on the shoulder. Sure, some 60 year old guy and a 20 year old nurse...John thinks not LOL.
I realized the other day she's a huge flirt..leads all the guys on...but I had self esteem about the matter for at least 2 weeks until she did it to some 80 year old she was helping up and leading on....dang.

Don, hope you get a window with a nice view, my favorite moments are often looking out the window and watching the birds devour my seeds on the 4 feeders 3 feet outside the front window.

Don, can you use an ordinary computer keyboard, or do you require some kind of special input or output devices? Was just wondering if it is at all feasible for you to use a laptop?

Hi Don

I don't know how "medical" your situation requires. Or if your facility will be big or small.

Around here there is an organization which runs a network of small adult residential care facilities, 4 to 8 clients per building. They are scattered around the city built-in to ordinary residential houses. My daughter works at one of those, where there are 4 clients with various physical and mental disabilities, and at least one worker 24/7. All those small facilities here, have cable TV and a cable internet router. Partly for the clients, partly for convenience of the staff, and I'm sure nowadays a lot of day-to-day business is transacted by email so they have got to have the internet connection.

On the more-medical end of the spectrum, I don't think I've visited a doctor office or hospital lately, that did not have local open-access wireless internet connection. Am sure it is partly supplied as a convenience for patients and visitors as they spend so much time sitting and waiting. On the other hand, the doctors and nurses would probably demand the access even if the customers did not.

So PERHAPS there are pretty good odds that your facility will have at least wifi wireless available to hook up to. Only judging from what I've seen around here.

thank you
with my communication limitation my va nurse/doctor has ordered computer access for me so its only a matter of internet access. i think i will be on line soon even if i have to bring my own desktop. however, i need to know whats the latest technology in pointing devices. im sure va will pay for anything i'll need for easier communication. they have been fabulous.

thank you and all my forum friends for all the support and encouragement. i will make it through this transition with your collective support.

Don,

I'm just thinking of other ways to skin this cat. Are you able to speak at all? Some of the voice recognition software is getting pretty good these days that at least could possibly fill your typing needs to some extent.

Also, I think Steven (sp?) Hawking has been using eyeball movement detection for typing and speaking purposes. He looks at the letters he wants to type and can trigger some means of accepting the letters.

Just some thoughts.

Good luck at your new place, Don. Maybe you can bring some music to the folks there. My wife and I play at a bunch of different care facilities here. A resident at one place plays a mean harmonica and plays along with us. Everybody enjoys music so keep on keepin on.

scott, no just guttural sounds, nothing intelligible. they say newer technology may help but we'll wait and see. they have new communicating devices i'm eager to try but first i have to regain my dexterity. i have a $3000 talking keyboard but no coordination to use it.

That sounds encouraging, Don.

Am sure the physical therapists will have good ideas on pointing devices.

It has been years since I tried a trackball. When I tried one for awhile a long time ago, it seemed good convenient for some things, but not great for instance operating paint/draw programs, at least in my hands. If a person has difficulty moving the hand long distances, perhaps it would be better than a mouse.

You can google trackball and find many models. They are not typically expensive. Maybe a model with a big ball and big buttons would work good, dunno. Some of them put the buttons on the side so you can 'chord' the hand to do clicks, shift-clicks, ctrl-clicks, etc. If you have trouble with chording dexterity maybe that wouldn't be the best.

My sister is a personnel manager and uses the computer constantly way more than 8 hours a day. She is a workaholic. She is addicted to trackball and doesn't like to use other pointing devices.

Don,

I have been away from the list for the past week, so this reply is being posted quite a while after your original farewell... In case you are still present on the list and able to see replies, I want to express my appreciation for all your past participation on the list, and wish you the best of luck.

Regardless of the circumstances this life provides, reality is larger than we can see with our eyes. I firmly believe that this crummy temporal reality is not the only reality. The bible speaks of God's strength being made perfect in weakness. I pray that you have experienced this alternative form of strength, and that it sustains you and your family through the temporal weaknesses this life imposes on you and on all creation. May God bless you and your family in ways that are beyond our human comprehension.

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
