I play a song, and after a couple of minutes, my monitor gets black ... very annoying!

I really don't want to change my Windows sleep mode settings for the complete System, but specifically when BiaB is running or at least when the BiaB Window is in the foreground or at the very least when a song is playing in BiaB, I definately don't want to experience any Sleep Mode or Screensaver Mode.

I have just received tips on how to solve the problem externally, and I will follow those tips gratefully - but nevertheless, I think that BiaB should really offer the option to toggle this from the inside of the program (in the BiaB preferences).

Therefore, I'd like to put this issue onto the wishlist wink

-1 Sorry, I know, my mother taught me that if I have nothing good to say I should just be quite, but in this case I just can't see the value of this requested new feature and BIAB has more than enough configuration setting. Maybe a smile will help. smile

Hey Music Student again,

well, I play a song in BiaB, and after a couple of minutes the monitor turns black. So I can't see anymore, which chords I have to play. And then I have to stop playing my instrument in order to move the mouse in order to bring the content back onto the screen, while the song for sure moves on acoustically. Plus sometimes my system gets stuck or "stutters" when it tries to show the screen again while the music is still playing (most probably also because a bunch of other stuff is connected to the PC). That's what the problem is about smile

MovetoGroove,

It sounds like you want to have two power plans for your monitor, one that is always on for when you're using Band-in-a-Box and another for when your doing other computer things.

Windows power plans can do that. +++ HERE +++ is a Microsoft document with the steps to create a new power plan and what you can change in a power plan.

From your description change Turn off display in 0 minutes and save the new plan.

What is you current sleep time duration set to? "every couple of minutes" sounds like a problem with the computer or you have your sleep duration set to a couple minutes. Set it to an hour or two. No one would work with BIAB for over an hour with out touching the computer keys or mouse.

That certainly sounds like a problem with something. Not sure if it is the Sleep Mode.

Oh really? I just hadn't found any Windows-options for app-specific power-plans, so far - I'll definately check out that link, Jim! Thank in advance!
And also thanks to MusicStudent for your replies!

Ehhhm ... after a first quick screening of that information and another trial in the Windows Systems Settings, I think that it's still not application-specific, but instead I would have to change the energy scheme manually each time I use BiaB (and again each time I end it)? - Where do I define that Windows shall use the new energy scheme automatically, as soon as BiaB starts running (and until it gets closed again)?

I think you would have to set up dual boot to do that.

You would have to manually choose which power plan to use. You can use the Windows Restart feature and select the power plan during the restart.

I do not know of a utility that can associate a program with a Windows power plan. Perhaps Pipeline, Matt Finley, VideoTracks or another computer wizard will jump in with an answer.

Curious, how do you manage the computer display while looking at a YouTube video that is longer than ten minutes?

Going back to this, I don’t understand why the screen is going dark. BIAB has lots of motion during song playback. A screen saver should never be triggered.

The one thing I do understand is the stutter when the screen reloads. That’s an action in the background that interrupts the CPU. Very bad news for digital audio.

Hey Matt and Jim - OMG, dual booth? Good to know at least, really thanks for the info, but: I give up on this path! confused
Anyway, I still have two other options, indeed suggested by Pipeline in my other thread ( https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=673563 ). I want to try them anyway, since they sound very promising, but it will be a workaround for sure, and therefore I nevertheless made this feature request here.

Matt,

I think because it wants either mouse action or computer-keyboard action, while it doesn't care for jumping pixels blush

Ah Jim, I forgot to answer your last question:
It doesn't get black when I watch a long Youtube video. No problems there.

Since you are answering questions...

Quote:
What is you current sleep time duration set to?

If the screen goes blank every couple minutes with no activity, then that would mean you have it set to "a couple minutes" which sounds crazy.

MusicStudent,

it's 10 minutes. The energy plan is reasonable for me in general, but just not appropriate when I'm using BiaB.

Btw, I really already asked myself something comparable, just in the other direction haha: Why do I seem to be the only person who has this problem ... do you all play through a song only once, or don't you all need to save energy, or do you all have BiaB on a PC that's not also used for other purposes, or the like? laugh

Is this a mains powered PC or a laptop running from its internal battery?
I run on both and have never had this issue.

If you are working with digital audio (that includes BIAB), you will have much better results if you optimize your computer for such. That includes not letting anything go to sleep on it's own.

A notebook powered by AC not battery. OK.

But the power settings could still be wrong and throttle back the CPU when you don't want it, or cut off the USB port. I think there is another thread on this, in which some of the things to check and the remedies are described.
