Hi Ray, it is not possible to switch from a RealTracks style to a MIDI style - this will not work. You would need to stay with RealTracks or start with a MIDI style.
What you could do is to load the MIDI style and render your string track to an audio file. That file could then be loaded onto the Audio track of BIAB. It could be edited using the Audio Editor to mute sections where you don't want it to play.
If you have BIAB 2021, once you've edit the audio to suit your requirements, file could be transferred to a Utility Track.
Any chance that may be addressed, I'm trying to add strings to a rock tune?
If you can stay with the RealTracks style, you should be able to add MIDI strings onto the Melody or Soloist track, and bring them in with <F5> when required.

I have been doing what you want to do for many years in PowerTracks and now RealBand. If you've never used RB (and it seems many people have never even opened it) you might get a pleasant surprise by how much easier some things are once you've created the base tracks in BIAB.
