Yes, there is Destructive Editing from the 90's and Non Destructive Editing that most DAWs now have. You might be able to get it all to work with https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_GainSuite/Full MIDI control and automation support, MIDI Learn. You could have your midi automation track that will send midi to the VST that will turn one FX on and the other off. You may need to use KV Element I will look more at it later when I have woken up and brain in gear.
