Take it Easy On Me

Just amazing. No fancy production. Just an amazing song

If you think you need at least 10 tracks, listen to this first

Great point. Here is Rick Beato's analysis:

You're right, that is an amazing song.

I wonder how many thousands of style files she previewed first? Zero. Zero thousands. Zero hundreds. Zero tens and zero ones. Write the song first, worry about the arrangement at the end.

thanks for calling this out

I did not appreciate the song on the first listen. I felt that some of the lyrics didn't fit and there were vocal crutches to carry the gaps.

but then listen again, the gravity of the entire work settles in
and I turn the corner and begin respecting the song.

Hmm, I didn't like it on 1st listen.
I didn't like it after the Beato factor was applied either.
It's well done but I don't like it.
Beat's What makes series is impressive BUT it's him applying some theory and sophistry to justify what he likes. If he didn't like a song where the singer used a 9th it wouldn't be something he'd bother with.
interesting stuff, well recorded, probably well written but not my cup of meat.

Also note, we only have Rick's word for it that the vocals aren't comped, that the other parts are single takes etc.
I'd suspect some comping on the vocal - maybe not a lot, but some. Also it may have taken a massive arrangement and 40+ tracks to realize that it only needed the minimum...who knows?...not Rick.

its debuted at no 1 in some countries.
i understand.

in a previous music life i used to hang with a group of
musos way more technically proficient than i.
one of our fav things to do was, each week we reviewed lots of new songs, and jotted down the ones we felt would go on to be top ten hits. one of our basic criteria was how catchy/hooky/memorable/accessible it was to the normal man/woman in the street.
we actually got very good in calling the next hits.
particularly unknowns out of nowhere.
i was thinking this morning how my old muso buds would
have reviewed the song.

so i gave a listen. heres my plusses/minuses
plusses.
1. great vocs.
2. some really special notes hit.
(i agree with beato on thius aspect)
3. interesting different arrangement.
4. good song picture/impact.
minuses.
1. not sure i like the kik drum useage.
(i would probably have argued against it.
just my personal prefs as a listener.)
2. i dont hear the memorable 'hooks' that i would go to bed singing, like i would with past hit songs.
3. i kept on wanting some bg violins in places.
(just personal pref again...but some modern producers might argue thats an old hackneyed production idea.)

gonna have another listen n see if it grows on me further.
frankly i would love to hear what adele could do with
her great talent singing a classic like 'cant get used to loosing you' sung by andy williams. a song i consider verey hooky/catchy etc etc.
she IS a great talent.

best

In the UK we used to have a TV program like that, called "Juke Box Jury".

I well remember a young black guy playing a song in a new (to me at least) style and thinking it was great.

The "jury" panned it, were then told that the young black guy was blind, and they then went all apologetic.

That young black guy was Stevie Wonder who, as I recall, did OK :-)

re jbjury.
i'm not surprised. people are fallible often.
was it decca who turned down the beatles originally.
music biz is a crazy biz sometimes.
re adele, i still prefer the deep song.

i'm happy gordon, my team the hammers just beat spurs

Inevitably, and thank goodness for that, or everything would remain the same for ever more.

Evolution is one long series of mistakes, a few of of which worked out for the best in the end.

I like the performance but don't think there's much of a song in there.

Just so I can understand your perspective, can you tell me of a few examples of real songs that you enjoy and move you?

Edited to add this: I actually do not care much for Adele’s voice. I realize I am in a minority. I really don’t go for the squeak sounds. I know that’s not a technical term.

If pop radio were full of this type of songs instead of Max Martin production sound alikes, or country music cookie cutter pickup trucks and cutoff shorts songs, the world would be a better place
