Using BIAB 2021 (840)
So I pulled up a song to work on it and find a good style to use. Found a style and loaded it into the song. Played just fine in the Key of F.
Did a transpose using the screen transpose function, moved the Key from F to C in the First column to set key AND transpose. Chords on screen all changed to the key of C. Generated the Song, but playback continues in Key of F. Tried the Edit Menu: Transpose function using semitones. Same result, no transpose but chord signatures correct. Song has no Melody and only 4-5 tracks used on the Mixer to support the style and no User Tracks or Audio tracks other than the RealTrack Style. Tried several other styles but no change.
Pulled up two different songs, transposed just fine. Exited BIAB and restarted but same result/problem. Changed the style to a simple all MIDI style to rule out possible RealTrack issue. Won't transpose.
So appreciate some troubleshooting guidance on what to check or how to resolve this one song to transpose from F to C, (short of just setting up a new song and retyping all the chords in the Key of C).
It feels like some setting is locking in the key and preventing a transpose?
Oh... I realize there is an 844 update available, but using the BIAB Help Menu "Check for Updates" option, it says that my BIAB is up to date.

Two things to check:
1: Are the tracks frozen? If so, transposing might not work.
2: Are there WAV or other Audio files (e.g. mp3) in the same folder as the BiaB song with the same name as the BiaB song? If so, BiaB may be playing and you might be listening to the existing audio rather than BiaB output.

If VideoTrack's suggestions do not work for you, you could email your song to support@pgmusic.com for our technicians to look at and see if we could find the cause.
Also, the "check for updates" feature inside of Band-in-a-Box is usually a build or two behind what is posted on the website. This is so there is a staggered rollout for the builds.
Best, Chantelle

You might want to type the name of the "song", and where it was "pulled up" from. so others here on the forum can help you troubleshoot the problem. Was the "song" loaded from the "Songpicker", or the "Stylepicker"?

Also, the "check for updates" feature inside of Band-in-a-Box is usually a build or two behind what is posted on the website. This is so there is a staggered rollout for the builds. So I could be waiting on a specific bug fix – which I am – and it could be ready and available but I won't get it by checking for updates until maybe a few months from now? I've been wondering why people keep getting told to check the website for updates when the application should be able to do that. This is a user-unfriendly way to stagger rollouts. You could do that by having clients update on a distributed schedule, say by geography, not by simply withholding updates entirely until their owners go seeking them. A reasonable person sees the "check for updates automatically" option and assumes there is no need to do so manually, or by checking a website.

jsut change the way you loook for updates.............lots of us do as part of checking the latest forum advice That is what I do. I've learned the "secret". But what about those who haven't? In the early 1990's, when there was a system update, I would call software vendors to ask if there was an application update; if there was, I would give them a credit card and they would mail me a floppy disk. This is 2021. Some software doesn't auto-update, most does. BIAB sort of does, but not really. I fail to see the value of a feature that only checks for updates that are already obsolete.

Mark, I agree with you and inquired of the developers, which is when I received the 'staggered rollout' explanation. Until this changes, I recommend going to the Support page and checking manually, rather than using the program's check.

Until this changes, I recommend going to the Support page and checking manually, rather than using the program's check. I'm still trying to make sense of this approach. It's as if the current version is reserved for more advanced users who want or need "the very latest" – normally known as beta testing.

Well, no, that isn't the explanation. Beta testers work on a version ahead of the public release.

Well, no, that isn't the explanation. Beta testers work on a version ahead of the public release. I know. I'm saying there may be a functional equivalence. Perhaps PG lets a new version "bake" on its website for a while, where we smart users who read forums and download patches can try it out and post detailed, technically savvy bug reports. Eventually the auto-update feature picks the version up, and by then any early problems have been fixed with the help of the early users. Beta testing by another name. Don't get me wrong, I run all the beta software I can. This situation just strikes me as dumb, and I can't imagine PG Customer Support enjoys having to tell people over and over that no, you have to check yourself, the software won't do it for you, even though it says it will...

I think you may well have it right, Mark. Theoretically the beta testing should pick up problems but in practice cannot test everything. There are plenty of folks who choose to wait awhile after any public release update. That’s not such a bad idea unless the update specially fixes a problem you have.

Completely overlooked that... definitely one of those senior moments! Next time I have one of these "usually works but..." moments, I'll post in the Beginner's Forum. Thank you @VideoTrack!
