What I found interesting was that after Escalante left Garfield H.S. to go to a teaching job in Sacramento, the math program there floundered. In my opinion, the actions of one person truly can make a difference, but if no one else is willing to pick up where that one person left off, then that difference is only temporary, and limited in scope. That is unfortunate.

Jaime Escalante, at least according to the story, was a spectacular teacher who cared about his students, and was willing to make and accept great personal sacrifice to show those students a better way. He is not the only one, of course. But, he, and those like him, are the minority. Our nation is poorer without him, and people like him.

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!
