I guess it's to protect themselves from lawsuits in the US. I once bought a US-made mountain-bike (Specialized). There was a booklet that came with it and it rained, so I read it. It stated that I had to check every nut & bolt, the breaks, tire-pressure and whatnot each and every time I planned to use the bike I also had to wear a helmet and other protective gear and do some other things I can't remember right now.

I never read the booklet that came with my Leatherman tool, but I bet it was something like: "Warning, may contain sharp parts"
