I have sheet music here that wants:

Dm7-5

and also

C7+5

I am not sure what that actually mean whether they mean #5 or add 5
How do I enter those in Band in a box?

The first is entered as Dm7b5 where the minus sign means flatted.

Or, since it is a half-diminished seventh chord, you can type the BIAB pre-programmed shortcut Dh

The second chord is entered as C7#5, where the plus sign means sharped five, or augmented.

I have another one...

The little triangle or delta.

My Abersold book says it means Major so one can have a C(delta)7 is a Cmajor 7.

However, some other tables on the internet say the delta means Maj 7 so that a C(delta) is a Cmaj7

Which would be correct?

The piece I am working on has Eb(delta) amidst other normal looking chords.
And also Eb(delta)6

Regards
Bernt

There is a font in "Band in a Box" that displays major chords with the triangle instead of "maj" and where you can also optionally select some of the most common jazz symbols variants: the BeStPlain ChordFont.

And to give credit where credit is due, my understanding it that it is a font developed by Brille here and incorporated into the production distribution of BIAB packages. Kudos to Brille for doing so.

Just to confirm:

Does the just a triangle after a chord stand for a Maj7 ?
Or must it have the 7 ?

And does a triangle with a 6 then stand for a Maj6

The triangle designates Major, but there is little need to put the triangle without adding the 7 since the absence of a triangle (C) assumes it is major. So the C triangle 7 is a short hand for CMaj7.

The C triangle 6 is the same as C6 but remember the C triangle 7 is not the same as a C7 which is a dominate chord.

The term major generally designates a triad of a root - third - fifth, versus the term minor which designates a triad of root - flat third - fifth. But Major or Minor does not tell you what the 6th or 7th is doing.

Are you really confused now?

Yes, confused.
I still do not know what it means when they write

C triangle

Which I have here in between normal chords such a Eb etc.

As for the triangle 6, another page I found on jazz chords says that it means the maj7 and 6 are combined into one chord.

Basically a C 6 with B included.

BiaB does not distinguish between some major triad X and Xmaj7. That's a long standing issue on the wishlist.

The interpretation of some major chord depends very much on the style chosen.

I would interpret Ctriangle as CMaj7 especially if this is a jazz leadsheet.

A major seventh with the sixth? That’s probably intended as a Major 13th chord. Yes, BIAB does those.

This thread is fairly recent, so I'll jump in with a question/comment about the initial post. I'm trying to get a D augmented 5th chord to play in a RealTrack.

When I disable the Natural Arrangement setting for the track, I do get the A# consistently. But when it's enabled, I rarely if ever get it I regened the chart at least 5 times and might have gotten 1 in 1 measure. I'm surprised the Natural Arrangement algorithms consider the augmented 5th an optional note, as it is certainly a distinct harmonic color.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Good question, gave me an opportunity to use my new toy to pound out the scale and chord on the piano and see it displayed on the screen (MIDIculous 4). This is the free version and it gives me exactly what I wanted.

Oh, back on topic. I can only give you the old tired montra: "..RTs are audio and you get what the artist played in the key and scale they were playing and you have little to no control how the chord is voiced". So with that in mind, here is a list of Scales Compatible with D Augmented. Surfice it to say these not the common pop and cowboy chord scales. grin

Dan, what??? Enigmatic? Hungarian gypsy? Sorry, I didn’t learn those and a dozen more. But it doesn’t look like you’re kidding. Prometheus? What on earth …

Chuck, my thoughts are, if it’s important that you hear the nuances of the chords you wrote, disable Natural Arrangement. I did.

I have been listening to Rick Beato a lot recently. grin

And regarding the Prometeus Scale: 1, 2, 3, ♭5, 6, ♭7 or W, W, W, 1½, H, W. well you can blame that on Google! grin

I also find the Cb demolished and demented minor scales work well with the augmented chord :-)

I am both demolished and demented after reading that list. Most certainly not augmented.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
