Up to now I've always used Real Tracks in my backing tracks so have absolutely Zero experience of midi within BB or RB. HOWEVER, I now wish to create a BT by importing a multi track midi file into RB and messing with it. The problem is that there is No Sound on playing it. It tells me there is no audio output driver and the box is empty but WT is showing in Input so it should at least play - but doesn't. Where are these various drivers and how do I install them? Or is the problem elsewhere? I'm bad with Tech, so Dummies Guide very much appreviated. Bests Ian

Hi Chantelle screenshot. BTW - on start up I also get a little orangey coloured box about something not matching but it disappears before I can read it or take a screenshot. May be related, may be not. Bests ian

You can go to "Help, Show Log Text File of Flash Messages" to see what the recent popup flash messages are.
On your screen, your MIDI output driver is the built-in Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, but by default all MIDI is instead re-directed to the Coyote WT DXi synth (which actually uses the same sounds as the Microsoft Wavetable, but also gives you the ability to render directly from MIDI to audio because it is a DXi synth, versus a dedicated synth).
I don't see from your screen why you wouldn't get any MIDI sounds. Perhaps you could share the file you are trying to import and we can see if maybe there is something there that is keeping it from playing.
Other things I would try are to set your audio driver in Windows to match the chosen audio driver in RealBand (bit and sample rate). Try it at 16-bit, 44,100 hz and see if that works first.

Hi John Excellent suggestion. Many thanks
This is the message I got on opening. RB was set on 16 bit 44100 and I have now RESET all Sounds via Advanced to the same (from 96 48000 or similar. lol) and now the file plays! The 'sounds' themselves are pretty poor but at least it works. BTW - I STILL get that message even though I have changed them. What might I have missed please?
The aim of the exercise was to take the multi track midi and delete the melody and guitar so that all that was left was Drums and Bass.
It gave me another issue - the midi plays on tracks 9 onwards (the top ones are Audio) but I cant see how I can scroll down beyond track 11 to actually see them. Is there a trick to it? Probably. Bests ian

Did you go into "Audio" settings in Windows Control Panel and match the settings there also. That's generally why you get that yellow box - the two don't match.
The Microsoft GS Wavetable Sound (and the CoyoteWT which uses those same sounds) are just general MIDI synths of pretty low quality, but will give you sounds to use to hear what the MIDI is supposed to sound like.
If you just want a good General MIDI synth, you might want to try getting Cakewalk by BandLab (which is free), as when you install it, you also get the TTS-1 synth which is based on Roland sounds for free also. It's a DXi synth you can select. Still not perfect, but much better than the CoyoteWT. And you get a free copy of Cakewalk, which was at one time Cakewalks premier DAW and sold for hundreds of dollars until Cakewalk dropped out of the market and Bandlab ultimately picked it up.

For Scrolling using the scroll wheel or such .. The Mouse has to be over the Track Name area, if it is over the Data Display area it will either expand/contract the bars across the screen. Is this the issue with scrolling?
For the mismatch, again as mentioned; it is pointing to your Windows Sound settings, not RB/BB. Your Windows machine is set to something other than 16/44 most likely.
If you go to Control Panel - Sound you can see the device, select Properties, and adjust the rate to match RB/BiaB
Using the newer 'Settings' path leads to aggravation for me. Go to Taskbar Search (or Run) and type Control Panel ...

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
John and Rharv so many thanks for the patience and detailed info. Doing it via Run and Control Panel did the job. No warning flag now. Also - I didnt know the way to scroll tracks was by going TO the tracks an then scrolling. I do now. Would have thought the side scroll bar or scroll when would have done that no matter where it was but now I know it doesnt.
This Cakewalk & TTS-1 is a puzzle. I downloaded ( I think) the thing and am now registered. If I load up the DAW (using their 'Create') the midi does sound lots better BUT I cant find it as a program OR MORE IMPORTANTLY how to get TTS-1 to work in RB and BB if I found it. Any info always Gold to me. Bests ian

Are you using RealBand or RealBand64? TTS-1 should show up in RealBand64, under Options | Preferences | 6-MIDI | MIDI Devices. But it will not show in the 32-bit RealBand.
Hi Chantelle I use RB 64. I'm absolutely new to it, having always done my DAW work outside of BB/RB. So hence the simplistic questions. I think the problem was that the box said NONE so I presumed that there was nothing there. BUT - the drop down shows TTS-1 see screenshot. Is that now correct? It seems to be sounding much better than before. Q - Should I now do the same thing in BB or does it carry over automagically? Bests Ian

my songs....mixed for good earbuds...(fyi..my vocs on all songs..) https://soundcloud.com/alfsongs (90 songs created useing bb/rb) (lots of tips of mine in pg tips forum.)
Hi om Define 'sound device'? If you mean soundcard, its Creative Audigy LS, oldie but goody. I'll make sure I've got this issue nailed first (although I think everyone has pointed me in the right direction) before I go looking. Im not a fan of midi at the moment, mostly because it always seems so techy and complex. RTs on the other hand are Audio and I know where I am with that. Digital vs Analogue? Lol. All I want midi to do is play better sounding versions of the instruments actually playing in the BB midi styles. For me its the biggest drawback to using them Bests Ian

You have to select the TTS-1 in BIAB also. It doesn't come over from RealBand. Again, make sure you are running the 64-bit version of BIAB.
Hi John Yes, a real 'D'oh!' moment for me. J imagined that when I changed it in RB, that bit of program changed in BB too. It's changed now and works fine with BB64. Thanks for the heads up. Bests Ian
