Hi, Ray!

Thanks! I'll admit to being lazy with the mixing on the drums. I have a listen to the drum and see if there's anything I can do to improve it.

The voices - well you did a cool job tweaking them to get a great result. That mob should be paying you demo fees.

Thanks, but I'm nowhere modern enough to be a good demo. I'll see if I can get closer to something contemporary in my next song. wink

I appreciate the feedback. smile

Cool bass!

I wish I could take credit for that, but it's all BiaB. I threw RBass on it to boost it, because it sounded so good.

A very clever write, and the perfect vehicle to use the AI voices. You're right, I don't understand it, but it sounds good. Really well constructed production.

It's good to hear that it all fit together. When assembling a song, it's sometimes hard to tell if it works or not.

Thanks for the comments!

great job with the backing band too.

Thanks! There are some really nice '70s RealTracks in BiaB, and I intend to use as many as I can.

I MEAN IT SINCERELY MATE. this must have been a lot of work. also what i like bout it is, it has some lovely song "hooks" in the arrangement.

I'm glad it worked! Sometimes the problem with BiaB is that there's so much good stuff, it's hard to know what parts to take out of the arrangement.

I was (and still am) a bit worried that the arrangement is a bit overdone.

Yeah, I hadn't expected him to show up, especially since the initial tests with the AI "male" voice wasn't that promising.

But I found out I just couldn't do without him. grin

I really with the SynthV people would hurry up and release a male English voice. It would make my life that much easier.

Then again, my son has offered to sing lyrics for me, so maybe next time I'll take him up on his offer. The main problem with using "real" singers is that I get obsessive about editing, down to the syllable level.

Plus, having synthetic vocalists means I can made lots of last-minute changes to the lyrics, which is quite handy! I did a lot of tweaks to the vocals even after posting to try and make some bits more intelligible.

Quote:
Your work is brilliant, not just because you know how to program the Synthesizer V so well, but because the lyrics and music fit the AI gang very naturally. The only thing you are missing with this production is a animated video of the girls (and guy) belting the song out.

Hehehe. At one point, I wanted to be an animator. But I don't have the patience for it, or the drawing skills!

Plus, there's a licensing fee involved if I use the Eleanor Forte image.

But now you've got me thinking about it...

Wow, this is one of the most interesting things I've heard on the forum.
First up, the band sounds great and the production is top notch.
The voice technology is amazing. I can see this progressing very quickly, giving hope to us non-singers.
Your light-hearted and clever song worked a treat.
Thanks also for the detailed production info.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi, Mike.

Wow - I'm flattered. But I think there are certainly some more creative things happening. Your "Time To Say Goodbye" and Mark's "Song My Mother Taught Me", for example. smile

Yeah, as I was listening to your "Time To Say Goodbye", I was thinking the same thing. wink

If you've got a MIDI track of your song, you can send it to me, and I'll see if I can get a vocal track for your song put together. Text me and I'll give you my email address... if you're interested.

I really, really enjoy pretty much anything that has themes linked to fairy tales and fables! No matter how the times change, some stories simply continue to persist, and I love seeing how people continue to immortalize these things. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi David,

Amazing - I didn't know this vocal technology existed.

You have clearly done a great deal of work on this song - well done.

Best Regards
Nigel

Wow, voice technology has certainly come a long way. I get what Mark was saying about the tone of the female vocal. My first thought was it sounded like a a Barry Gibb falsetto which is never a bad thing. That aside the band sounds great and the lyrics are clever without being silly. Clearly a lot of work went into this and resulted in a great listen, Tom

David,

Love that opening. Grabs the ear nicely.

A clever write.
"Every night
I chase the same siren call
Looking forever for that damned ball"
That's strong.

BAND is nice. Good mix.

For my money, the shining star is the melody. Excellent.

The duet aspect is a nice touch, too...

The sound of this is stuck in my head long after listening...

Hi, Nigel.

While it's not quite good enough to be convincing, I think it's at the point where it's useful enough to be able to demo a song without being too much of a distraction.

It's especially useful for doing things like complex harmonies, or reworking lyrics - a good singer will be able to make anything work, but if the lyric is a clunker, you'll know right away when the computer sings it. wink

And importantly for me, it takes me as a singer out of the equation when writing, which is helpful.

Hi, Tom.

It apparently is a falsetto register for the voicebank. Yes, that's a thing with women singers, and SynthV recently added support for it.

I'll confess, since the working title of the track was "Discoland", the Bee Gees weren't far from my thoughts - even though the harmony is nothing close to their style. wink

A lot of Vocaloid songs are in the upper register, so I thought I'd leave it there. In the future, I'll probably pick a more sensible register, since changing keys in BiaB is pretty trivial.

It's good to hear the song worked! Honestly, I think the BiaB style did most of the heavy lifting here, but I'll be happy to take some credit. grin

Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment!

It's good to hear it works. I think I mentioned elsewhere that I tend to overdo my arrangements. This part of the songwriting business is especially a work in progress for me.

Quote:

I really appreciate that. I'd been working on a song off and on for a couple months, and started it again. The melody was pretty, but not compelling. So I finally dumped it and started this one from scratch, and tried to come up with something more melodically interesting.

Quote:

That's one of the nice things about having multiple singers - different registers really show off counterpoint nicely, even if (as in this case) it's pretty minimal.

I got a bit silly with the stereo panning in the second verse, but no one's complained yet. Maybe they're just being polite.

Quote:
The sound of this is stuck in my head long after listening...

Well, that's the gold standard for me for melody. That, and a positive floyd jane review! laugh

David,

It is a wonderful duet song that reminds me of one song of the some musicals.
I think it was difficult to use male and female voices properly with the same character of Synth V.
Also, I think it's difficult to compose a duet song, but you've succeeded in doing so.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

I'm always curious enough to give a listen when I see these vocal products. I'm usually met with what I'm expecting; and that's a pretty low bar. Not that I dislike it; it's just not...you know, all that good. I enjoy hearing the progress; even if it is slow.

Then you came along, as someone I know from the forums...not some unrealistic demo the company put out...and blew me away. Obviously it's not a perfected science yet; but what you did was damn impressive!

Thanks for the surprise today! Now the bar has been raised. It makes me more curious even for the near future.

You really did a great job my friend!

That was great! What a nifty production.

Loved the tune and harmony and instrumentation. Good work with the AI.

And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
