Hello, I would like to order the upgrade from Audiophile 2021 to Audiophile 2022. This requires the delivery to Europe of a 2TB hard disk containing wav files. Last year I noticed that, when I received the package, VAT had been added to the declared value by customs. How can I avoid paying VAT twice ? Customs in Italy should be clearly informed that VAT has already been charged by the non-EU seller. Thanks a lot Best Regards Angelo Bologna, Italy

There should be a customs declaration attached to the package stating that VAT has been paid. I'm not sure how PGM handle this.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11 BIAB2025 Audiophile, a bunch of other software. Kawai MP6, Ui24R, Focusrite Saffire Pro40 and Scarletts .

I would contact PGMusic directly for the correct solution.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions. I have written to the italian customs agency. If they cannot guarantee that a second payment of VAT will not be required to proceed with customs clearance, then I will necessarily close, after many years, my experience with Band in a Box. It is a pity since this year BIAB has done an important step forward. Kind Regards Dr. Angelo Cappello, PhD Bologna, Italy

When I received the message from PGmusic two days ago with the announcement of BIAB 2022, I didn't want to believe the extra 20% discount. I hadn't read the discussion in which Peter (Gannon) announced his intention to offer an additional discount to customers in Europe who frequently update BIAB in December. Last year I had to pay VAT twice if I wanted to clear the package in Italy. So, reading the message by Peter I immediately thought that this 20% was designed precisely not to harm these customers. I am very grateful to Peter for this initiative. But I'd like things to turn out differently in the future. Now there would be a possibility to avoid paying VAT twice: https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/ioss_itThis year I will upgrade Audiophile (the 2022 version of Band in a Box seems a very important step forward) using the 20% discount but I hope that in the future PGmusic can apply the full price to us Europeans because we are not taxed again in our country. Kind Regards Angelo Bologna, Italy

To be fair, this is all pretty much a problem with our own governments and not the US companies. Here in the UK and the EU, VAT has become a complete mess. I'm VAT registered and often I don't even bother to claim because it isn't worth the hoops you have to jump through with imports.
The one stop shop is just a system in place so that companies outside of the EU can deal with all EU states in one place (it's also used from inside the EU). Whether they decide to use it or not should be irrelevant. PGmusic still has to pass on the VAT they collect to the appropriate country. It is those countries that are at fault because they have desperately put together an ill thought out system that was broken from the start. Only the huge companies can really afford to deal with the nightmare and costs involved - for small businesses it just isn't always worth it.
I have no idea how PG deal with EU and UK VAT but my guess is they charge it and then pass it on to the appropriate country as they should. From this point it is out of their hands - it's our own countries that aren't keeping proper track and making it so difficult to claim back.
