It is impressive - it's amazing that so many pop vocals sound like this already. The drums behind the voice make for a very alien feel. COOL.

Thanks, gents.
I'm thinking of combining Emvoice and Animoog, but I'm afraid with all that intelligence they might join forces and overpower me.

Hi Mark,
that's indeed amazing - thanks for showing us the possibilities of the software. And thanks for the URL.
Take care,

I'm gonna slip another Emvocal piece in here, non-BIAB if I may; it shows what Emvoice can do under adverse conditions, being fed a non-singer-friendly MIDI part by a hostile composer. There are "lyrics" but they don't matter and are almost entirely unintelligible, I mostly take the default "la". "Hail Mary Amplify" – https://soundcloud.com/mark_hayes/hail-mary-amplifyFeaturing Animoog Z! Original holiday music.

Those darned modernists! I wasn't familiar with this song before, so I'm happy to find out about it. This setting really emphasizes the dissonances of the music. That drum fighting against the rest of the music is an interesting choice. Emvoice works well with this. Google found me this version, which is probably my favorite interpretation. Sort of the opposite of yours - you've imposed strict time and dynamics, and this goes the opposite route. It's interesting to see how the same music can have radically different interpretations! "Hail Mary Amplify" is... well, something else. Sounds a lot like an algorithmic composition.

Strange but nice.

Great demonstration, Mark. That Hail Mary one was particularly enlightening, although I couldn't listen to much of it. Ives, on the other hand, is worth several listens. Very interesting.

That drum fighting against the rest of the music is an interesting choice. That's the "Band-in-a-Box Effect". It will force the piece to be rhythmic, if it can, but where that breaks down, you get what mixtures you get. If this fails miserably, I discard it, but I like the ending effect here. Thanks for the video link. "Hail Mary Amplify" is... well, something else. Sounds a lot like an algorithmic composition. But it's not! Which makes that a great thing to hear, it means I was using human algorithms, so I must be smart! Or something. What it is is a 1980s tape of a multitracked Radio Shack Moog emitting slow, random notes with echo and echo feedback and a (real) alto recorder, combined with 2021 analyzed polyphonic pitch information from that sonic mass, chopped up and distributed over multiple MIDI instruments. So the result has incurable randomness at heart but oodles of intention slathered on top of that base. And Lucy had me at "Amplify", I love the way she articulates that word.

Thanks, Stefan, Peter, Marty for listening, especially if you took in any of the Mary thing. It's like what they say on airlines – "We understand that you have a choice, and we appreciate your decision!"

Google found me this version, which is probably my favorite interpretation. And now, for something completely different... here's a very jazzed-up version by Kneebody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Fce68QG8Z4

And now, for something completely different... here's a very jazzed-up version by Kneebody. Honestly, I skipped this when I was browsing around. It was worth listening to, but for me the extended instrumental didn't add much for me - at least, not emotionally to the song. On the other hand, I like Tom Waits feel that the horns arrangement gives it. That's something that this instrumental cover by The Westerlies has... also with an extended instrumental in the middle. Still, well time well spent listen to it.

I am constantly being fascinated by the synthetic vocals people have used in some songs. I like your arrangement and instrumentation. Sounds "out of this world."

Sounds good. I suppose this is the future of music as the AI vocalists get more and more advanced. They work for free and they don't give any back talk - yet.

I suppose this is the future of music as the AI vocalists get more and more advanced. They work for free and they don't give any back talk - yet. They DO breathe. The initial inhalation of breath sounds awesomely convincing to me, but it also makes me think, "Why do I need goofy tricks like this, who am I trying to fool?" I'm guessing it's more than a goofy trick, though. I imagine the human brain is wired so that singing without breathing will sound wrong at a subliminal level, even if you don't realize that's what is bothering you. Occasional breaths keep that reaction sedated so listeners won't slip into the Uncanny Valley. =8^)
