i assume zen has a midi out ??
try this.
(bit unsure of your set up there.
difficult without being there.)
1. zen midi out directly into midi input of pc.
(or over usb.)
with midi out of pc going to sound canvas.
so you can hear sounds.
2. record the midi trak.
3. after recording insert battery plug in.
tell me if that works. (muteing canvas).
after inserting battery you might have to fiddle with some settings i suspect or remap
the midi stream.
for example lets say you see the midi recorded fine on the trak.
and you want drum sounds from battery.
but after inserting battery you hear a piano plonking along like drums.
mebe battery expects the drums on a certain midi channel,
so set the channel in the recorded midi trak appropriately and/or
you might have to remap the midi data via the piano roll.
from what i see battery has lots of drum samples.
what you need to find out is...what midi note values trigger certain drum samples.
ie...what midi note value triggers kik or snare or low tom etc etc.
then you have to make sure that the recorded midi note values reflect this.
note that the zen drum looks like to me has midi note select
THUS ITS IMPORTANT I SUSPECT TO MATCH NOTE SELECTION
WITH WHAT BATTERY IS EXPECTING.

what i would prolly do is hang a big sheet of paper on my studio wall
with 2 columns. midi note value and corresponding sound it triggers.
remember midi is different from audio. all the midi note values do on
the trak is be used as a "sample trigger".
the other thing you might find usefull is..within ptw is a likkle usefull utility called
"midimon.exe". this allows you to get lots of deep details bout a midi data stream.
there is also a utility called midi ox that might be usefull.
tell me how ya get on mate.

i would also suspect youll need a pretty decent pc with a decent amount of memory
and a decent processor. also dont do this stuff off the win OS drive.
run a test with a dedicated hard drive..eg 7200 rpm 32 mb cache.
