With no intention of disparaging Band-in-a-Box and their valuable tool, I have been relying on it to showcase my original compositions but hopefully in a way that doesn't sound like "the box". I am curious if the perception here is that I succeeded in that effort. Good luck to all in their creations.

Hi, Eric.

I think most people here are trying to sound like it's not "the box". The main giveaways tend to the be the drums (BiaB puts in more fills than a typical drummer) and using the same instruments constantly through the song.

As for your song... well, it's on Spotify, so it requires me to install or sign up for something. So I can't actually listen to it without putting in more effort than I'd want to. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

My apologies if my post made it sound like others weren't accomplishing the same. It was not my intention - more a reflection on what I was hoping to achieve.

Apologies also if Spotify is a hurdle. I once posted on Soundcloud but it felt like I was giving away free content. This is ridiculous on its face given how little streaming services pay their artists.

Anyway, thanks for your reply and I wish you good luck in the music you are making.

E.

Pick a song and post Eric,
I'm disinclined to go hunting.

Most all of my songs do not sound like the box.

If I were you I would put a short section of your song on Soundcloud so we could here it.

I am not going to register anymore sites as I get a ton of emails a day and I have a ton of passwords. Thus I can not hear your song.

OK, a random thought;
Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

The first song to come up ( over and out) sounds as good as many here.
Pretty good song construction.
Listened to a few others, I think you've got some nice songs there.
Well done.

My critique is:
The vocal is a bit disconnected from the backing track, perhaps too dry?

Thanks for the guidance. Someone suggested I drop snippets on Soundcloud which seems like a workaround to using traditional streaming services.

I have created and release a few songs and no one can tell that they are BIAB. This song was created in BIAB and released in July generating over 6k streams (not massive but OK) just on Spotify alone and the video almost 2k views (doesn't include iTunes, Deezer, Amazon, etc..) https://open.spotify.com/track/467Pe89BjJrYdhb7Y5M0HY?si=11977966a5554a8e

I did listen to your tracks. The music is good. The tracks stand on their own. However, please take this as ONLY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM The vocals could use a little work. It's a little flat.

The music of the first one sounds great, like a real indie band and I could not even tell it was Band in a Box. Very tasteful and artistic use of those tracks, creating a real mix the way a band would and not just finding a style and clicking play.

Good job.

The vocals have promise, but being untreated the way they are, they stand in stark contrast to the music, like you recorded the vox on an iPhone will you were playing a well mixed track in the background.

I would get a vocal producer you know, someone with expertise in vocal plugins and mixing, to set you up with a good signal chain you can use in most of your productions that would let the vocals blend in with the rest.

Nectar 3 Elements might be a good starting place because it has some cool AI feature to analyze your voice and apply what is needed for your style.

But, I do think you have a lot of promise as an indie writer and artist,

In my opinion, you only need to find the right vocal treatment Fx tailored for you to get a cohesive indie sound.

This gold bundle is worth every stinking penny.
