Time To Say Goodbye
If I may be so bold, I'd like to submit a new version of my, song Time to Say Goodbye. This time WITH VOCAL!
Fellow Forumite David Cuny (and his friend Eleanor Forte) supplied the vocal track for two verses from WH Auden's classic poem Stop All the Clocks, which was the original inspiration for my song..
Eleanor Forte, a synthetic voice for the program Synthesizer V, could be a very useful tool for all of us non-singing composers. Especially as the technology is improving so fast.
I'd be very interested in your comments about this vocal version (the vocal begins about 50 sec into the song).
Thanks. And a huge thank you to David for his time and expertise.

Verse (from 50.2sec to 1min:22)
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Middle 8 (from 1min58 – 2min34)
He was my North, my South, my East and (my) West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

Very nice indeed. Except I got all the way through, and no vocals!

I think you meant to say https://soundcloud.com/user-952388172/stop-all-the-clocks-with-vocal

Again, very nice, both the composition and its use of the synth voice.

It really is crazy how good the vocal synths are getting these days. You did a really great job with this, thanks for sharing! I always love hearing poems put to music and seeing how it inspires people to create.

Hello Mike
Cool song with great melody
The singing is really incredible
The topic of artificial singing is pushed by some members here
I find that really exciting and follow that with great pleasure
I would like to see how such a song is created
Thanks for sharing
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

Hi Mike,

We hadn't heard the instrumental version before, but the music is beautiful!
And the vocal sounds very real. Nowadays synthetic vocals almost sound like human voices.
We read the poem too.
Beautiful poem. We've saved it on the pc.
Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic, Mike, this opens up a whole new world for you. This piece was terrific as an instrumental and it's even better now with the vocal!

Mike this update is hugely successful.
My only nit is that the phrasing in
"Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,"
isn't quite right...comes across a little stilted compared to the rest.
Nice collaboration.

Cheers

This was a lot of fun to do, especially because I think Mike did a fantastic job with the orchestration and melody.

I appreciate Mike letting me work on this. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I saw this on the list and thought , "Oh, yeah, that's a good one," and figured I already mentioned that. When I saw the low number of hits, I knew I must be mistaken. Adding David was brilliant. This is such a good good song with such skilled production and writing. Excellent version. So glad I didn't overlook it. Wonderfully done, Mike and David.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Andi. I too am excited by the progress of vocal synths.
My song (the instrumental version) was inspired by the WH Auden poem Stop All the Clocks.
I wrote the melody to fit the verses but some were more musical than others so I used the meter of a couple of verses for the melody.
Then talented forum member David Cuny offered to add a vocal track to my melody from his Synth V.
And here we are.
I hope this explains a bit about how the song was created.
Thanks again for listening.
Cheers,
Mike

HI Mike and David ...

What a gorgeous composition. Both of you did a fantastic job. What a sweet listen! I can only try to imagine the amount of time you gentlemen dedicate to this project. For us listeners, we sure are glad you did! This is one of the prettiest songs I've heard on the forum in a very long time. Amazing!

Take care ...

This is a nice addition to an already lovely composition.

As we mentioned in one of David's posts we feel that this contralto Eleanor is the best synthetic we've heard. The vibrato also adds to "human" element.

Fascinating,

J&B

Mike,

This is really a stellar composition. Amazing how far the vocaloids have come —Eleanor sounds great on this! Terrific work putting this all together. Love that flute (I think) that carries the melody on the instrumentals. Wonderful production—outstanding!

My very best to you,

Deej
