Is "Save as Band in a Box Song *.g.*" supposed to work?

It shows as exporting the tracks to Utility Tracks, but when opening the file in BIAB 2022 Build 912, RealBand 2022 (2) (Earlier builds same problem)... nothing shows up on the utility tracks.

I've attempted this multiple times, in multiple versions of RealBand and BIAB, over many months, with same results. It would be a nice feature, if it worked.

Thanks

Thunderthud,

Please let us know what versions of Band-in-a-Box and RealBand you are using. Build numbers are available under Help > About in both programs.
Nevermind, I see where you provided this information in your initial post.
Are the tracks MIDI or audio? What exact steps are you following to export a file as SGU or MGU?

The 2022 New Features manual states on page 2 under Features and Fixes since 2021 the tracks must be audio.

Well I guess that's the answer. It didn't occur to me that would be a possibility.
It's disappointing, but thanks! Hope that it will change, and MIDI's will be included.

I appreciate you're taking the time to research and answer.

Thanks!

you could of course convert the midi tracks to audio in RB - would that work Jim? but then you lose the chance to edit midi when you get back into BIAB so you'd have to complete your midi editing first in RB.

but if you want to add extra RTs and midi once you are back in BIAB and the midi is edited the way you want in RB before you convert to audio that might help.

but it is an inelegant solution

Inelegant is a good way to describe this. I primarily use RealBand for editing midi's. So, being only able to import Real tracks to the Utility Tracks, seems kind of strange to me. But, thanks for your thoughts!

A good thing to keep in mind is that the utility tracks are a project in progress.

Somewhere I thought I heard "All tracks are equal". Guess that was a goal... :-)

My guess is that has a limited application. They are equal as far as adding tracks. RTs, RDs, Midi super tracks, etc. Still the all the legacy features of the style tracks will take a while to implement. I don’t doubt this will continue to develop.

Best advice “stay tuned”

Mostly arrangement functions not available in RealBand. Also the BIAB ChordSheet's internal functions are more advanced than the RealBand's. With BIAB's Chordsheet automatically doing intro's, endings, transitions, cross fades, fade-in's and fade-out's and there are many other WAV instructions. Here are 10 features that RB either doesn't have or the function is updated and enhanced in BIAB.

StylePicker Play using current Chordsheet from song feature
RB doesn't recognized and use MultiStyles
The Advanced Audio Editor Features of BIAB
The RealTrack Medley Maker
The BIAB Song Form feature
The BIAB Song Form Medley Maker (different from the RT Medley Maker)
The Artist Performance Track features
The updated and enhanced Audio Chord Wizard
Generate intro
Add Repeats

thanks Charlie, but I wondered what thunderthud wanted when he went back to BIAB. he's using RB to edit midis so he obviously has a finished song format in mind.

everyone has their own workflow i was just curious. i know you are right about what BIAB does that RB doesn't but i was just wondering.

merry christmas!

I pretty much use RealBand to strip events from existing MIDI files that I import into BIAB to add a Style, RealTracks, etc. and finish up.

Charlie... You've got it exactly right. For me, BIAB is the main tool.

Bob as I said in an earlier post, I have created over 100 cover songs in RB using midi files and adding RTs and RDs. I used to use the juke box to play them live. The reason for midi is to incorporate signature licks and bass lines into the cover, then add my own twist.

The point of all that useless boring information is RB can get the job done if you work with it.
