That's somewhat true and it was done on purpose. The song demo was intended to be more in type to Pop music as described by Lazarus and some other posters rather than an EDM, dance, House, Rap and other electronic genres. BIAB can easily do these type genres but BIAB is an unnecessary tool because they are MIDI based so only a MIDI file and VST's are used to construct them. I've watched all of the listed tutorials in this forum by Make Pop Music and he constructs all the tutorials in a DAW using MIDI and VST's without playing a true instrument.

My intent was to display and demonstrate BIAB's ability to use Real Instruments and not just MIDI/VST's. Although it's short, my demo has 5 distinct sections, uses real instruments and a variety of different styles to quickly construct a Chord Sheet and apply multiple dynamics, styles and instruments from a single render similar to the toplining songs and the pop styles that are mentioned in the quote below.

PG's 'Modern Pop' styles make an attempt in this direction but they have so far missed the point:

EDM, dance and house music are separate genres from mainstream contemporary pop (personally, I can't stand them!)

I think that accounts for some of the misunderstandings in this thread. BIAB would be no good for house music or EDM. Its creators have better tools for creating that (to me) tedious, irritating noise!

My main point is that we are now at a time when there are more good, accessible pop songs around than there have been since the 70s. They are relatively conventional in structure and much closer to the best features of BIAB. They have fresh sounds, as can be heard in my song list, but please no EDM, dance or house!

However, for the sake of including electronic elements, in my demo, all 5 of the synths, although they're BIAB RealTracks, they produce audio files of electronic elements such as those generated and manipulated by square waves, modulators, modulation wheels and midi controllers.

Besides, the demo is only a demonstration and not an attempt to do an Austin Hull of Make Pop Music and do an "in the style of" Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande type song.

Thanks for doing that Charlie and for listing the styles and realtracks you used. I will check them out.

Interesting also to read (several times) your detailed explanation of 1152-Silence. I don't quite yet understand how I would use it, working with BIAB in Studio One. Is it intended for song creation wholly within BIAB or would there be an application for it when working in a non-PG DAW? If so, it would be handy if PG posted a How To video for this function.

Thanks again.

RT 1152: Silence as best I know is intended for use wholly within BIAB. Every DAW has a function to create blank areas on a track. It's value is to give instructions to the BIAB algorithm is my best guess. It is a better option for use to mute an instrument in a song than using Bar Settings Mute. I think it's also useful as a place marker when multiple styles are used on a chord chart. For instance, in Style 1 the piano Legacy Track has a RealTrack Piano. When the Chord Chart changes to Style 2, on the Piano Legacy Track, no instrument is desired to play during Style 2. Placing Rt 11152 on the piano Legacy Track in Style 2 causes the BIAB algorithm to view Silence as a RealTrack instrument and it replaces the Style 1 RealTrack with the Style 2 RealTrack but plays silence. Using Bar Settings Mute in such situations sometimes results in audio being clipped off abruptly or the audio phrase not coming to a clean ending and continuing to play beyond the bar. Following the bars to be muted, the user is left with the audio selected by BIAB without consideration of the muted area so in some situations, the incoming intro isn't correct and has to be regenerated until proper audio phrasing is randomly selected.

Not using RT 1152, the user has to manually use the Bar Settings Mute to stop the Style 1 piano from continuing to play in Style 2. I believe it affects both the specific chord selection and the actual RealTrack audio selected so as to provide programmed smooth transition material together with the cross fade for a commercial quality level transition that the user would otherwise have to utilize multiple tracks of material to manually edit the transition. Using RT 1152: Silence will automate this repetition and tedious task giving a more complex arrangement on the front end rather than toward the end of the editing in the DAW.

Apart from seconding the premise of the OP - one thing PG can do to help this is to ensure that the MASCHINE plugin works well in bias - with the ability to route separate outputs from the plugin hosted in BIAB to separate UTILITY tracks or mixer tracks in BIAB

I realise this might be more useful to using BIAB plugin inside a DAW but I'm talking about when MASCHINE plugin is hosted in STANDALONE.

Why? because the waiting times for regenerating BIAB styles in the plugin are just too long for use in any production situation where one needs to try out lots of different style options before settling for one.

At the time of writing this (25th December 2021), there have been nearly 24,000 views for this thread so I was wondering whether any of you with an interest in mainstream contemporary pop styles for BIAB have upgraded yet and found any good new styles for it in BIAB 2022?

Many of the posters to this thread were kind enough to take the trouble to listen to the list of example songs I posted early on. I haven't yet bought BIAB 2022 so I would very much like to hear from anyone who has and can report back on whether they have found any new styles of the kind we were asking for and, if so, what they are called.

I have listened to some demos of new realtracks and demos for extra styles and pro styles. There's a bit but not a lot that's jumped out at me from doing that so far but I hope someone could kindly point me in the direction of the good new stuff in this genre. I do realise that some styles are much better in use than they might sound on a first listen to their demo.

Happy Christmas everyone.

A lot of modern music focuses on electronic synthesizers.
BIAB is mainly piano and guitar.
However, this is not a big problem. If you enter some more modern chords, it will be full of modernity.
Of course, if BIAB adds more modern drums or electronic synthesizers in the future, it may feel better.
