When editing the User programmable functions (Melodist Maker, Soloist Maker, Guitarist Maker, Harmony Maker, Style Maker) is would be great if BiaB would, while regenerating the new output (melody, solo, harmony etc), changed the previous output only with regards to the parameters & settings just changed.

That would make it possible:
a.) to directly audition the effect of the changes to the settings just made (which IMHO is much better than just reading about them in the manual)
b.) to incrementally work towards to the desired result, by making a few changes at a time and auditioning the effect and then either reverting the change or keeping it and then continuing with the next changes to settings.

AFAIK Currently, after changes to the settings, BiaB regenerates a totally new output (melody, solo, harmony etc.).

not exactly sure what you are trying to do but have you tried RealBand? Once you have the tracks in BIAB, save the file then open in RB. you can edit/add fx/ regenerate a few bars or a long phrase etc but the changes are 'undoable'. plus you can duplicate a track. leave the original as it is and play around with the new track to your heart's content without losing the original.

there are some things you can't do in RB (i'm sure someone will list them) but RB does have the advantage of being a little more obviously transparent (at least I think so) than BIAB.

That's a very interesting idea, but I suspect that such a feature would imply a total redesign of all that modules, which I don't see happening in the near future.

I could be totally wrong, though, and again, that's a smart and really interesting idea; maybe you'd like to post it in the wishlist subforum:

Not really what I want.
I want e.g. keep the solo as it is but just change a specific setting and see how it affects the solo (the whole of it and not just a part of it) WITHOUT a completely new solo being generated.

I know I can have a new solo with the changed Soloist settings generated and I know I can freeze the last solo and/or copy it over to Realband or DAW to then edit or replace parts of it and/or process it with FX etc. but what I want is neither of them.

I would like to have a new solo generated which differs from the last generated solo ONLY in aspects related rto the Soloist settings changed since the generation of the last solo.

For this BiaB would have to take a note of all the decisions it made to generate the last solo and then modify only those decisions which rare affected by the changes made to the Soloist settings.
And also wherever randomization was involved in generation of the solo, in the following iteration, the existing solo should be taken as basis instead of the randomization.

I took Soloist as an example but what I say applies equally to Melodist, Harmonist, Guitarists etc. too.

I don’t if I could make myself understood…

I think this makes perfect sense, though I'm not sure how feasible or desirable it is.

Here's what I think would do what you're asking, let me know if I'm not getting it:

1) BIAB generates a solo.

2) You change soloist settings X and Y.

3) BIAB steps through the existing solo, phrase by phrase, and asks, "Do I have to change this phrase to comply with the new settings, or can I keep it as is?" If you change nothing, you get the last solo repeated identically. If you change anything, some phrases will probably have to be changed, though not necessarily.

Cool! Good luck with that, though. =8^) The ask seems very challenging to me.

At present, we have BIAB algorithmically generating the next bar.

In your ceteris paribus desideratum, we would have BIAB looking at a previously generated next bar and asking, "Can I still use this bar, given recent settings changes, or is it excluded from consideration by my revised algorithm?"

That seems like it could be a toughie.

Yes, I also think it would require a different and much more modular approach.
e.g. when one setting is changed, than only the part of the algorithm implementing this one settings should be re-executed.

The existing algorithm with the drop & recreate approach should be left untouched.
To supplement it, a second a more modular approach could be developed to support changing only one or a few settings at a time.

I agree that it would involve a lot of work but once it's done it would be a feature nobody would want to miss, almost like Undo/Redo or the nondestructive editing features in DAW.
