Hi folks,
I have received plenty of pictures via email. I save them in my HD folders. Anyway, I also want to save the whole MS-Outlook stuff including the pics. Now, what I found is a .pst file, about 1 GB of size. Does that file include all the attachments (like pics, docs, etc)? Or are these attachments saved somewhere seperately? If so, where?

If I save the pst file, can I load it into an Outlook of a dfferent computer to view all my emails including the attachments?

Thank you,
Sandra

Sandra,
Yes the .pst file is the storage of all things MS-Outlook. You can move this file from one maching to another and transfer all mailbox content.

Dan,
So you`re saying the .pst file saves all the pictures too? The are not stored at a different place?

Right, Sandra. ALL emails plus attachments are saved in the .pst files (unless you have saved the attachments elsewhere and deleted the original email, in which case you are on your own). Your Outlook settings are something else...

Hi Sandra,
your Outlook .pst file contains your COMPLETE outlook stuff in one file. It is a database file in a special Micrsosoft database format.

So, be carefull when sharing it: the .pst-file contains your emails, your contacts, your to-do-lists, just EVERYTHING!

Better way: create a subfolder inside your email folder, copy the emails with the pictures attached in this subfolder, use "Export" to export only this subfolder in a separate .pst file.

Then, you can transfer this to another PC. There, you have to open it in outlook by "open user file" (in German: Offnen -> Outlook-Datendatei".

Sandra,
Go to the FIle Menu in Outlook.

Select Import and Export

Select Export to a file

Select Personal Folder File (.pst)

From the next window that opens, scroll all the way to the top, and select Personal Folders. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is CHECKED.

Select a location where you wish to store the file...thumb drive, different hard drive, external hard drive, whereever. Leave the options at default.

Click Finish. Click No Encryption. Click OK.

Your entire Outlook information is now being saved. That includes e-mails, attachments, contacts, and other items you may use Outlook for. It does NOT store your e-mail server information. If you are transferring to a new computer, or re-formatting this computer, you will need to manually install that e-mail server info.

Sandra,
My opinion of you just dropped about 0.000001% for that last comment. I have a very high opinion of you, and your music, so it's not too much of a drop, but that wasn't true, and it doesn't take 'the ladies' any longer than 'the gentlemen' to get a concept once it's been taught to them.

I'd like to see half the guys here figure out traditional female responsibilities, like child rearing, meal planning, laundry and all those other tasks that most of us take for granted.

Then, on the other hand, I look at some of the guys I know, and they can't figure much of anything out, so that kind of just dumps that theory in the trash can.

Gee Gary, work firefighter's shifts and have a working wife and you learn the above really quick.

I made glazed chicken, rice with fresh asparagus tips, a maple orange sauce, a roux and brussel sprouts for supper last night. The wife put the dishes in the box and turned it on to wash them and I fell asleep watching tv with a rye and water dribbling "dang..geezz...now I gotta pee.

My Dad never ever cooked, did laundry, or cleaned. My Mom is bedridden and he borrowed my cookbooks, started making lists, and now the dinner is cooking, he's standing in front of the tv ironing underwear and t towels. And he learned at 75. I admit he was playing sports with us when we were younger, and Mom had to to the dishes, while we played hockey on the back yard rink, or baseball in May when it warms up, or football in September when it's too cold to stand still waiting for a pitch.

You learn what you have to.....

LOL
I was just kidding. I am a person that likes to make fun of myself! I don`t really think that we ladies can`t figure out things as fast as the guys can. So it was really just a joke.
And as far as "traditional roles" go: My dear husband makes my breakfast everyday. And therefore I forgive him that he`s late every single time we meet downtown. LOL

For 8 years when I had a Fire Department 'office' job, I met my wife downtown everyday after work, we were 3 blocks apart. I got off at 5 which meant 4:30 LOL, plus 4 or earlier on Fridays. (But I was on call every 4th week 24/7). My wife worked until 4:30 but she's a department manager of a real business. She usually got out at 5:30 or 6 or 6:30 or later. At first no cell phones. For two weeks I waited in the car in front of her office. Then I found a pub with free parking underground if you had a beer. 20 minutes late 1 beer. 40 minutes late 2 beers. When she showed up at the pub she'd grab a 1/2 pint, and she had to pay my tab for being late. The paying part was supposed to be incentive to come faster. NOT.

The kicker was my wife is not a very good cook. If she ever had to do it she could, but we've been married 26 years and when we get home she sits and watches TV and I cooked. And set the table. And gave her a glass of wine.

Then I retired and got all the other jobs, and I still drive downtown and wait for her, and still have a beer, down to one...or two...she can drive.

It's 9:30 she's left for work at 7:00am and I've not started cleaning yet. But our band plays a concert tonight and I have to polish our horns and I have a singing part...through a 140 year old fireman's trumpet.

I wonder where the silver polish is.....??

And Sandra, I was kidding, too. Kind of. I know you were making a joke, which is why I posted my comment the way I did, so that you know I wasn't serious about YOU.

However, I know so many women, young women, even today, who comment 'Oh, I'm a girl, I can't do that!' I tend to look at them and ask to see the card that lists the 'restrictions' that are placed upon them due to their gender. When they look at me like I'm from another planet, I simply state that there is nothing they can't do, if they want to do it.

John, I know several men who have had to learn things the hard way, and then do a fabulous job with it, once they've learned. But, unlike a woman who you can more easily show that the stars are in their grasp, it's harder to get the men to do 'women's work.' That attitude still prevails today. They can do it, there is not limitation physically that prevents them from it (save child bearing and such), but the mental attitude of young men...emphasis on young...is that it's 'a women's job' and they aren't going to do it.

Sandra, I hope that you recognized that I was ribbing you. I think you did. However, I still believe, for many people that I know, of both genders, what I've said is still...sadly...true.

Gary

Well, I'm still looking for a woman who can remember to keep the oil up in the car engine before it cooks itself!
