Hi Folks. Can somebody point me to... selecting individual midi line from PG MIDI styles (NOT Super Midi) on Utility track(s). I 1)right click on the mixer 2) chose Custom Midi style for this track. 3) In the pop up context box-> selected "Patch Any" 4)I click "Choose style with this patch" (With "Patch ->Any" checked, assumption is that all styles are shown) 5)I find / audition Midi style with instrumental line that I want....
How do I assign that specific line to the track??
I read the manual, watched the video, still VeRy confused. Yes, you can "Choose from preset..." but the list is small, only showing 300+ total items.
Total midi styles are in hundreds, on average with 4 tracks, which should have thousands of midi lines. How do I pull individual lines from Midi styles to arrangement?
I can see all my styles when I set the option to "Any Patch". Do you have any of Stylepicker's many filters operating, maybe?
If not, try returning to factory settings. Sometimes BIAB seems to get a bee in its bonnet about something and returning to factory settings sorts some things out.
Pipeline, Thanks. But... What you are doing is just blindly picking tracks and inserting them to Utility tracks. Naming or order does not match of that Bolero style. Picker shows the list of legacy tracks currently in the mixer. Has nothing to do with Utility track(s) Midi line will be inserted to.
See attached. I hope that makes sense. Maybe Mario can shine a light on this as he uses midi a lot...
P.S. Noel, yes, main picker shows all when "any patch" is selected, no problem there.. but "Choose from Presets" does not only >400, when it should be several times that number.
1- in the style picker I put Bolero in the filter string. 2-open mixer 3-right click on any utility track 4-select custom midi style 5-select any patch and choose style from this patch 6-from the list pick the style you want and click OK attached is the list I got 7-from the track select the track you want and click OK Said track will be in the utility track you selected, regenerate and it will play along with your regular tracks.
Note if you have no filter in the style picker all of your styles will appear. Note you must filter prior to using the utility tracks.
I hope this helps and good luck.

Best I can figure is you are reporting that: You can not select a midi track from a midi style to be inserted into a RT style when the midi track you want is on a Utility track of a midi style. Instead you can only select midi from a legacy track of the midi style.
No surprize to me. Historically, midi files only generated midi on legacy tracks. In fact, I suspect that is true today. So this restricted menu option is by design.
But, I am struggling to comprehend all this code as much or likely more than most of us!
Sorry, I looked more at the prior threads and see the your report is more regarding the fact that the midi tracks identified in the selection menu do not match up witht the midi tracks present in the midi file you are selecting from. Ya, that just seems wrong.
"7-from the track select the track you want and click OK"
That comes down to what Dan said:
"your report is more regarding the fact that the midi tracks identified in the selection menu do not match up with the midi tracks present in the midi file you are selecting from. Ya, that just seems wrong."
Mechanics are correct, naming / order is not. So it is more like guess & match game instead of select & play...

I must have been extremely lucky as the first time I did this I got a guitar patch and sound from the style list, hence my original message. Now I can't get anything to work. The list in the select window matches the instruments in the original style and not is the style you are adding in the utility track. Regardless of what I select all I get is a piano sound! This is a total mess.
I think you have found a major bug.

This whole thread is terrifying to me, and reinforces my tendency to practice “smash and grab“ with BIAB MIDI. =8^)
...my tendency to practice “smash and grab“ with BIAB MIDI. =8^)
I call it "in and out", but same thing I think. That is not a CRITICISM, it's just that my understanding of MIDI only goes so deep and BIAB is like a black hole. So when conflicts arise, I tend to give it the benefit of the doubt.
See attached. This, or something similar is how I believe it should work. I will move this to "wish" section later.. but it is not so much of a wish, but a request to fix something that is not working as it should. I guess team didn't get around to this part of the woods since the introduction of Util.Tracks. I hope someone from the crew is taking a note of this.
The order should be the same, the Drums maybe different but the other should be the same. This is how it is in RealBand you just go by the order. You also have presets if you search by Style name, I think I went into this before, the preset list did not have all the instruments for a style added but you can add manually in a txt file, though they should all be in there this way you can see the actual name of the instrument.
This is using the Midi style at the top and using the style on Util tracks at the bottom:
Presets do not audition styles...or those individual Midi lines. Even if the FULL list is there and searchable only with text string, it will be of little or no use, since you can not hear what you are importing.
I think, what I proposed is "inline" to what is there & familiar and would eliminate whole context within context within context thing. Just audition and pick what you want...

Even if you have a good MIDI understanding BiaB is still a black hole. Nomenclature is a big problem. A bigger problem are the half finished new features that come out each year. Utility tracks, lousy name BTW, should be just like regular tracks. Track labels should consistent through out. etc etc.
[Edit} - Although virtually all of my songs start in BiaB you all are finding out why I get out of BiaB as fast as I can.

Yes that would be good, but you need to preview the individual tracks, but you don't have the "Play Using Current Chord Sheet" in that dialog and the other dialog just gives a wma stereo demo. Then you need to go into Track Settings menu to solo/mute, I did ask for buttons on those track to solo/mute. The alt 7 alt 6 don't seem to work. You should be able to preview the style and solo the track without it interfering with your current style and tracks.
Even if you have a good MIDI understanding BiaB is still a black hole. Nomenclature is a big problem.
I was just reading elsewhere that one needs to "select graphic events" in a certain editing situation to select MIDI program changes. Apparently BIAB lets some operations be performed on notes, "graphic events", or both. Now, maybe this is just my ignorance, but is that a normal way to talk about MIDI? (I guess "graphic" means you can see it on a timeline but it doesn't by itself make a sound.)
"but you need to preview the individual tracks" On preview level... That is absolutely true. The issue is that...mixed demos are only wma and to play whole midi style, you need built in GM MIDI synth embedded for previews (That is always there, regardless of "default plugin") otherwise with so many different setups it would create havoc.
My main issue with whole midi style / individual track situation is that... It is creative content that is very usable, but if it doesn't work right or intuitively, it is simply lost for most people, with exception of using whole styles "as is".

Not to my knowledge. I have never seen "graphic events" used. I'll assume, I know that is bad, that it means highlight a section of notes/events or to lasso a section of notes/events. This usually occurs in the piano roll view but it can also be used in the notation view. Events could be velocity, pitch wheel,CCs, etc. Operations could be increase/decrease velocity, change pitch, lengthen/shorten note duration, etc. I don't know what BiaB allows because I do all of my MIDI work in Studio One Pro 5.
