Trying to render to WAV for the first time on my new PC (windows 7) and I cannot 'find' the Recording Properties pop-up to set to record MIDI... what am I doing wrong here?

You went through band in a box setup and set it there?

Not familiar with win7 yet.

I'd click on live help about 10 a.m. PST.

That's West Coast time..

Hi dmrodes

The use of Windows 7 makes no difference to the operation of BIAB - have you looked along this toolbar starting with > New > Open etc the icons for .MID and .WAV should be there if not go to the righthand side and click on the small arrow which brings up the Add/Remove menu and see if they are checked and ensure they are

Hope this is what you are looking for

Brian

I think on a new install, all the icons now appear by default? But check Brian's suggestion.

Dmrodes, if you click on the 'MID' icon, about seven or eight from the left side and just to the left of the 'WAV' icon, do you see what you are looking for?

Guess I didn't explain myself clearly... when I used to click on ".WAV" it brought up a Record Control window where I select 'midi' and then click 'render to WAV file'....

On W7, it pops up a 'sound' window, and there is no 'midi' option - just microphone... and then tells me 'no wave input devices installed' and starts the rendering, but results in a blank file....

Hope this clarifies things a bit.... thanks!

Thanks. It sounds to me like you are searching for the soundcard's mixer.

Since this is a new PC, can you tell us more about your specs? What kind of sound card? You can see this in the Devices and Printers icon on your desktop. What did you select in the BIAB Drivers dialog box?

Hi dmrodes

If you have a new Windows 7 - 32/64bit computer does it have the usual basic Realtek soundcard

On my 64bit I have changed to the X-Fi PCI Express card but before I did I used the CoyoteWT and the output drivers as DXi/VST

Have you checked this in the Opt > MIDI/Audio drivers set-up - which by-passes the card

First off, I am still running BIAB '08...
I have an ASUS Pentium Dual Core 64 bit with Intel and Realtek HD Audio listed under Sound (device mgr).
On the Midi Driver setup, I have none selected for input, and MS GS Wavetable Synth as output. Should I be using DXI or something else?
The Devices/Printers window does not show a soundcard...?

Sorry for being so outdated here, but I've been using a Windows ME system with BIAB for the past 3 years....

Hi dmrodes

The selection of the GS Microsoft Wavetable is ok but with that I feel that you could improve the sound output and control so it would be advisable to use the Coyote Forti DXi soft synth (from the PG Music site) as VSC DXi does not work with 64 bit OS's

Later you might like to consider a change of soundcard to something like the X-Fi Xtreme gamer or so would give you a "Music Creation" facility (the ability to enhance/modify the sound output) but check whether you have a PCI or PCI Express slot available as some new computers are going to the smaller connection PCI express slots

You will not find much in Devices and Printers in Windows 7 except add on units (not inboard) so as you found the Device Manager or Sound in the Control Panel is the right area

According to how much money you have available the improvement in BIAB 2010 over your 2008 is amazing and is a must

Hello dmrodes,

Starting with Windows Vista, there is no record control or play control window like there was in earlier operating systems. The setup is done in the Volume Mixer (which shows a separate fader for each running application) and in the Sounds window. In the Sounds window, you might need to right-click and select 'show disabled devices'. You will need to select something other than microphone, because that won't allow BB to record the GS wavetable.

If you don't have anything other than Microphone to select, your computer's sound device might not have the ability to record what it's playing. In this case, a good solution is to use a DXi synth instead of the GS Wavetable. The sound quality will be better, and rendering is much easier. If you happen to have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 installed, then you can use the Roland VSC-DXi. If you have the 64-bit version, you would need to use a different DXi synth. The Coyote WaveTable DXi synth is included with BB2010 and works on Windows 7-64bit. It sounds similar to the GS WaveTable but has all the advantages of using a DXi synth instead of a non-DXi MIDI driver. If you don't upgrade to 2010, other options are the ForteDXi and TTS-1 synth included with Cakewalk Music Creator, which can be purchased on our site.

Hi Andrew

That a great spot on the sound window because on the Realtek Recording entries it will then show up the Stereo Mix of the Realtek High Definition Audio which you can set as default - I can now remember that when I first got the new machine this did not have checked - Show Disabled Devices in the Recording tab

dmrodes - Just go to the Recording tab > right click on a blank area of the page and ensure that both options are checked > Enable and set the RealTek High Definition Audio option as default - you also have limited various enhancements etc in there
