I installed BIAB 2020 (not the RealTracks and RealDrums) on my C drive (SSD) today and discovered it takes up a bit more space than I was led to believe. So now the situation on my C drive (SSD) is 91gb used and 27gb free, which, according to my maths means only 22% free.
I have plenty of space on my D drive - 462gb used, 469gb free - where my previous installations of RealTracks and RealDrums are already installed.
If I want to install the entire BIAB2020, including RTs and RDs to my D drive (HDD), is it OK to just uninstall the program from my C drive before commencing. I have not activated the program with the serial number yet.
Also, do I simply uninstall the program on my C drive via the usual Windows uninstall function?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi Mike,

You only need to copy it over to D: and then delete your C: drive installation.

If it doesn't automatically work once you've copied it, run the installation file with "minimum" setup and point everything to D\bb.

That should do it for you. I've done it many times over the years.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel.
Do you mean copy the entire contents of C:\bb to D:\bb or drag the C:\bb folder into the D:\bb folder?
Also how do I install the RTs and RDs from the BIAB USB 3.0 drive to D drive?
Do I uninstall the program on my C drive via the usual Windows uninstall function?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

What I've always done is to simply copy the entire folder across to my new drive and then manually delete the folder on my previous drive.

If you use Windows uninstall, you'll need to reinstall the whole program. Reinstalling completely new can involve losing things if you've had BIAB for a few years. Re-installation doesn't consider things that you picked up in bonus files over the years. So unless that material has been added to the present installation, you might not get it in your re-installation.

If you drag the folder across and choose "Copy," that's the same as doing what I've said. If you choose "Move", though, my experience is that it's a much slower process because it involves copying files and deleting files. I have always found it prudent to keep the original files in place until I'm sure I've got everything I need.

With your new Realtracks, you would only need to install the .exe files to for those Realtracks D:\bb once you've copied everything to D: drive.

Regards,
Noel

Sorry to sound a bit dumb Noel but I'm still not sure what you mean. If I copy the C:\bb FOLDER (as opposed to just the files in the folder) won't that give me two bb folders on my D drive".
I also don't understand what you meant about how to install the new RTs and RDs from BIAB2022 USB 3.0 drive. Which exe files and how do I install them?
Thanks for your patience,
Mike

Mike, you can rename your D: bb folder to something like 1bb. Copy C: bb folder to D:
When you open BIAB, point RT / RD Custom locations to your 1bb folder in preferences.

Thanks Misha. That should solve my dilemma re duplicate bb folders but how do I add the new RTs and RDs (on the USB 3.0 drive) to my current RTs and RDs on D drive.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I didn't see in your original post that your RTs and RDs were on D: Sorry.

The easiest way to install the new RTs and RDs would be use PG Music's installed and just have the RTs and RDs checked. Seeing you purchased the UltraPlusPak, I'm guessing that PG Music sent you a link to download the install files.

I suggest using Direct Chat to talk to someone at PG Music as ask them how to install just the RTs and RDs. Also tell them where the RTs and RDs are presently installed. Don't forget to point out that the present installation doesn't include 2022 RTs/RDs. PG Music may have a different suggestion.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Mike,

Windows know to copy the content.

You should be able to just drag and drop the C:/bb folder itself onto the D:/bb folder. If there are conflicts, the Windows copy will ask you what to do and will offer something like "do this for all files".

This is the cleanest way to do it. Windows will tell you a file already exists, leave it or overwrite it, and you can choose the option "do this for all files of this type" on that dialog so you don't have to babysit it. Once you have verified everything is there on D, you can delete C:\bb. Anytime you run an update etc. just make sure to tell it you are on D:\bb vice C. Once you do it the first time, it will remember each subsequent time after that, at least that is my experience.

Thanks Noel, Misha, Gordon and etcjoe,
I seem to have successfully copied BIAB2020 to my D drive. It all seems to be working OK.
The only thing I need help with now is how to install the new RDs and RTs to my current RDs and RTs folders on my D drive.
If I try for a custom install of the tracks I'm told my C drive does not have enough space for installation. There doesn't seem to be an option to install to D drive. I haven't yet deleted BIAB from my C drive.
Any clues anybody?
Mike

You should simply be able to delete C:/bb but you may need to change the patch in the desktop shortcuts and so on.

IIRC if you run BiaB from the D drive it's look there first for the various files, but if not you can set it up on the Preferences dialog, lower-left corner of the buttons.

You could just delete the RealTracks and Drums from C:/bb and run BiaB from it's usual place. In that case you definitely need to set the paths as above.

Mike,

As I said a couple of posts above, chatting to a PG Music staff member would be the easiest way. They may have some suggestions that will streamline the process.

What I would do is to download just the 2022 content from PG Music. These are .exe files and should be available on your PG Music website. If they are not there, you need to chat to PG Music about it as they may have changed their system. I think that you might also be able to use PG Music's new installation manager to download and install just 2022 RT files.

You will have received an email from PG Music when you bought the Ultraplus Pak giving you some download instructions. Have you checked that out? PG Music always provide download options for Ultraplus Pak Hard drive purchases so people can play with the software while they wait for their drive.

The other alternative is to copy files from your hard drive. That said, though, the files cover all years and I'm not sure that there is an easy to to identify this year's RTs/RDs.

This is where talking to a PG Music rep. can help.

I hope this provides some useful information,
Noel

Thanks so much Noel. You've been very helpful.
It probably wasn't the smartest idea to attempt the installation on a weekend when PG Music is not open.
I will "chat" with them tomorrow to see what suggestions they have. If worse comes to worst, I guess I can delete everything and then install the whole program (and RTs and RDs) on my D drive.
I looked at PG's installation manager today as an option but it seems weird to download over 120gb from the other side of the world when I've got all the the files sitting on my desk.
I will mark the issues as 'resolved' when it is.
Thanks again,
Mike

I don't understand what you mean by this. You can install the new RealTracks (e.g. realtracks376-380.exe etc.) to your D: drive. Just enter D:\bb as your Band-in-a-Box folder, RealTracks folder location, and Drums folder location. You want everything on D:\bb correct, or do I misunderstand?

I tried to do a custom install (option 4) of the RTs and RDs and I got a message telling me there’s not enough room (it’s obvious from the amount of available gigabytes quoted in the message that it wants to install the RTs and RDs to C drive and there was no option change this).
I have since spoken (Live Chat) to Support and consequently installed the whole program to D drive. After installation, RealBand, which I mostly use, was stuttering and distorted on a file that played perfectly before installation.
The problem seemed to be related to the fact that there were no presets in PG DX effects. When I removed the PG effects from the various tracks, playback was better. Support also suggested I delete realband.ini and RB.CFG from the RB folder. This also seemed to help.
Another concern is the CPU meter reading in RB: if I try to generate a RT the meter goes through the roof (99-100%) as soon as I open the dialogue box - but the generation is successful.
Any suggestions?
Thanks Mike

Thanks for clarifying. I tested this, and the issue is that the components screen of the installer wizard appears before you choose your installation folders. You can ignore the warning, proceed to the next screen and choose your install location. We will fix this as it is confusing.

The presets wouldn't have anything to do with stuttering. If the presets weren't installed by the hard drive installer, either the PG DX effects component was not selected, or it is an older hard drive that pre-dates the Jan 2021 PG effects update. Either way, you can install the current effects via any newer BB installer.

For the high CPU usage, I have also noticed that the RealBand CPU monitor registers 97% CPU usage when choosing a RealTrack on my system, even though my actual CPU usage is not that high. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but it is not accurate in that case. I would run the Windows task manager and click on the performance tab - CPU to get a more accurate picture. So I don't think that would be the source of your stuttering either.
