God Doesn’t Want My kind in heaven

God hasn’t called me home
An old man told me
Cause he doesn’t want me up there

Telling him what it’s like
Down on this mortal coil
Not something that he wants to hear

I’m ninety-two years old
Seen things to make your blood run cold
Little children crying out in pain

I just don’t understand
Is that part of his plan?
Little children crying out in pain

God doesn’t want my kind in Heaven
So, I guess I’ll have to go on living
God doesn’t want my kind in Heaven
So, I guess I’ll have to stick around

God hasn’t called me home
Way too cantankerous
He doesn’t want my sort up there

Saying his creation’s flawed
Asking him how could you Lord
Allow the things that are happening down here?

God hasn’t called me home
But I guess it won’t be long
Did I mention that I’m ninety-two?

At my age you speak your mind
Sorry to take up your time
Hope that I have not offended you

God doesn’t want my kind in Heaven
So, I guess I’ll have to go on living
God doesn’t want my kind in Heaven
So, I guess I’ll have to stick around

(repeat chorus)

Lyrical premise was brilliant. Questions many people ask, especially we older folks who have seen way too much of this world. Singing was good as usual. Guitar was icing. Nice work all the way around.

Good write, well produced. As others have mentioned, good character study.

The timpani and brass were a treat.

I enjoyed this one a lot! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Excellent write! Good vocal, Leon, and production sounds great too.

Loved that melodic solo to end things off, Peter. I think I would have been tempted to put a solo in the middle too, can't have too much guitar in my book wink

Nice way to kick off the year, gents, enjoyed!

Cool tune Peter... Clever, thoughtful lyrics...
Great sounding mix, and tasty guitar licks taking it out... Well done.

Peter & Leon,
Sad, but well written tune. Very good lyrics(!) & performance, both vocals and guitar.
I will go with Dave B. thought on a mid solo. Clear mix and listens easy. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Wonderfully written, well said, and perfectly developed and presented. Love those lyrics, Leon, and a good vocal surrounded by interesting harmony. Hey, Peter, God needs your amazing versatility in God's band.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Leon & Peter,

Good write. Great idea! Thought provoking in a good way...

Nice vocal.

Good arrangement. Opening guitar is a great sound. Cool build at the chorus (timpani is nice - drums are interesting, too).

Good mix.

Really nice outro guitar.

Worth many listens.

Hi Peter,

I think it's not only God doesn't want you up there. Me neither.
As long as you make these nice songs it's alright to stay here and entertain us/me.

It is a very nice song with a surprising angle in the lyrics.
I enjoyed it a lot. Nothing to complain about. Just enjoying it...

Hi Peter & Leon,

Good song - I particularly liked the Lyrics and the chorus.

I agree with Dave - I would like a lead break of some sort in the middle for a bit of light and shade but otherwise the mix is great.

Well done.

Best Regards
Nigel

Good narrative, good melody and a good arrangement...all combine to make a REALLY good song.
I'd love to hear another solo.

Cheers

Lovely rich sound Peter and Leon! Great use of those Orchestral sounds! Rather Beatle-esque in places! Heart wrenching lyrics that most folks grapple with at one time or another! I would like to think otherwise that the old man found peace in the end if the tune was based on a real story! I always enjoy your work! Thanks, Torrey

Thanks Dave,

Trying not to overplay - it's the vocalists fault!
