ive been gradually doing deep dives into biab 2022. holy moly...deep down i discovered in the updated audio editor...EXTRACT STEMS !! WOWSER ! considering i got a bunch of original songs done on 2 inch tape multitrak originally that i dont have the individual traks for anymore. (yeh i know i'm stupid...but we couldnt afford always cost of 2 inch tape...so re-used tape in long sessions....only have stereo song masters.now digitised.) this is BIG. BUT it looks i need to dload something to make it work. can some kind soul guide me...cos viruses...dont wanna get net viruses...i'm leery/paranoid bout dloading willy nilly. why didnt pg just include the needed add on into 2022 version ? so i dont have added steps ?
i gotta say the bb audio editor is starting to look really groovey. and could save a user paying for pro audio editor software. one grrreat new feature i would love in bb is a "clarity" feature. ie useing AI algos .... press a button and bb audio editor produces a really nice master .... ie then add RT's etc to old masters after extracting stems etc.
best om ps impressed with bb 2022.

I cannot realy help with this, but I was looking it the matter. From what I understod, this menue item is a placeholder where you can put a link to a stem extracting software you have. The example given is for soeme phyton package.
There is an open source package phyton based called spleeter (byDeezer?) you can download (what you want to avoid). This requires to download and install phyton first, than you need an editor that works with that, than you need to download the spleeter code and then maybe complie it. A lenghty and cumbersome process than requires some knowledge. But that is free.
There are some online offers based on that spleeter code. You can upload a song and can then download the separated steems. Billed by song or on a subscription base. I would recommend to try with one song so you can judge the quality.
There is software available (e.g from Steinberg or iZotope) that can get better results, but they come at a hefty price tag (yet at least iZotope RX 9 offers a demo, the module you want is "musical rebalance"). Even those "pro" Versions cannot work miracles, yet it is close to a miracle what they can achive. I myself have iZotope RX9 and if I put in some extra effort the result is astounding (extra effort in my case is applying melodyne to the vocal stem, "cleaning" it from artefacts, run the inverted result against the original mix and do a new separation.
One caveat here, the better the source, the better the result. Wave is better than mp3 and old tapes may not be the best source material. So a test with a one shot from an online service might be helping to compare expectacions with reality

OK, how does one get to this feature in Audio Edit window? Far as I know, the Stems are for RDs so far (created by PGMusic), not previously recorded material, but I'm happy to learn more.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
Uncle. oh dear, too many steps for my liking. i cant see many users going through so many steps. all i want is to load a wav into pg audio editor, press a extract to stems button ...and whammo. mebe pg might build such functionality at a future date. hopes dashed lol ...thanks for takeing the time to reply. best om

Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more. If interested search on Janice Merritt. Thanks! Our Videos
I have it and use it. It's a favorite tool for me.
For those who may be interested, search for Spleeter GUI
Spleeter GUI is a single install and loads all of the necessary python and other code necessary for Spleeter to work. It's a Windows only software I believe.
I've installed version 2.9 and I've found it to work better than any on-line version I've tried.
Found Spleeter GUI. Thank you Charlie for this Tip. This one stop approach of having just to install one package and not to bother with phyton and such is worth a try. There is an NVIDIA CUDA Version available making use of the Deep Neural Network library. Do you know about this, using it maybe?

Spleeter itself appears to be written in Python, so should be runnable on most platforms, though it uses "tensorflow" looks also as though it's written in Python. https://pypi.org/project/spleeter/
Tensorflow is available on Linux, Windows and MacOS(*) https://www.tensorflow.org/install/ (*)There are apparently ssues with Apple M1 chips.
Spleeter itself is a command line application. It looks like the GUI version is a wrapper for Windows only. https://makenweb.com/SpleeterGUI
Python is a platform independent just-in-time semi-compiling language, that also OpenSource. https://www.python.org/
I haven't personally tried any of these, though may well do in the future.

charlie and gordon. nice info..you are both princes. so is this the link i would dload the one install spleeter package from ? https://makenweb.com/SpleeterGUI i just dont want to go thru a complex install process.
cheers. this is very exciting for us that have lotds of old song stereo masters. yesterday in realband. i loaded an old rok master....then just a smidge of pg echo with pg plug in declik and was rather pleased. the "tarting up job" certainly improved on the original master with a touch of eq etc. i was grooving...lol best om

I've used an online version of Spleeter or similar and it's okay but the caveats as mentioned are many & various.
I'm often amazed and amused at the need to "remaster" stuff. I wonder whether the music in question was "mastered" by an M.E. or "mastered" as in run through some software without the ears & knowledge to support it, (ears being the most important), or is just the stereo mix. If the master was bad going back to the, probably stereo, mix file makes sense but a lot of folk are simply throwing new software over an existing master. That's be extramaster/overmaster/or something wouldn't it?
The oft expressed desire for the one button magic leads, quite often, to the hit n miss of up n down load "mastering" offered by Soundcloud and other "I.A." enabled mobs.
Here's a useful option: This person will, as a free sample, properly master an uploaded song and send a MP3 of the completed job. If you like the results you can pay for the full definition audio file and you're away. If you don't like it you keep the MP3 no fee. The difference is that there's a bloke at the otehr end who uses his ears, decides what needs to be done and how, tweaks according to his skill set and experience and yes you can include a reference track as guidance. https://www.presentdayproduction.com/mastering
