Can't Talk To You

When I make a new connection
Will I take a cruel rejection?
If I call your home
You won’t touch the phone
I am all alone

Can’t talk to you, no no no no

How I wish that we were speaking
Like a fish my eyes are leaking
With a word or two
We can make it through
So I cry for you

All that I need is some real communication
Then I will be freed from this horrible frustration

If I knew you’d get the signal
I would make your iPhone jiggle
But it goes to mail
Digital jail
Once again I wail

This is some silly stuff here. It evolved out of an earlier discussion about “reimagining” existing songs using basic compositional tricks. This is NOT “You Won’t See Me”, by Lennon/McCartney.

Synthetic singers by Emvoice and EastWest
RealTrack: ~522:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 120

NOTE 1/20/22: Replaced original track and updated link. Hopefully fixed the audio masking problems.

Thanks! I like the title, it sounds like a magician.

I do try to keep things in balance, though. No more than two weird ones in a row, then I have to take a timeout and try to do something normal.

The synth voice works pretty well...having a solid melody and lyrics makes a difference.
The slightly stranger bvox reinforces the relative normality of the main.
Cool.

That's a trick to remember: the more weird makes the less weird seem normal. Thanks! =8^)

I was thinking "This sounds fairly normal..."

And the it got to the chorus. laugh

Yes, “You Won’t See Me” sprung to mind immediately.

Fun listen.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks, it was a fun do! I considered making my protagonist the self-important misogynistic jerk that young Paul McCartney was back then, but I was afraid it would be taken as me being the jerk. Here's Wikipedia's "behind the scenes" story:

"You Won't See Me" is about a crisis in McCartney's relationship with his then girlfriend, Jane Asher. Four years younger than McCartney, Asher was approaching twenty and no longer willing to adhere to his wish that she stay at home and put his interests first. In late 1965, while the Beatles were recording the album "Rubber Soul" in London, she had accepted an offer to appear in a stage production at the Bristol Old Vic theatre. After a heated argument, the couple had briefly ended the relationship. When he then attempted to telephone her in Bristol, Asher rejected him by not returning his calls. McCartney later said that it was "shattering to be without her".

Poor guy! Same attitude he expressed to the same woman in the grotesquely mistitled "We Can Work It Out".

Here's a photo of her doing that which so upset the macho moptop.

PS – Paul wrote the song in the basement of her parents' house, where he was living at the time.

Oddly enough I didn't get You Won't See Me from this, but the chorus brought Flower Duet by Delibes to my mind. I liked it, it was very relaxing to me. I guess I'm easy to fool, the main vocal worked fine for me. The "more weird makes the less weird seem normal" definitely worked on me. Good job all the way around!

Yeah, that's perfect. Master of Strange & Wonderful. There is something hauntingly engaging in these AI voices, Mark. Very cool.

Hello Mark,

I was amazed how bright your song is. The guitar, the vocals and that haunting voice at the back.
What a wonderful song this is! Intriguing and fascinating. How do you come to this compositions?
As I said earlier, I'm not exactly a fan of this style, but I like what you do.
Brilliant!

Hans

Hi, Hans, and thanks! How did I come to this composition? I stole it from Paul McCartney. But then I "music laundered" it in Logic and BIAB by inverting the pitches, jazzing up the chords, and changing the words, so the law can't touch me.

I probably shouldn't do this, but if you don't know it, here's the original. You can hear that while it's not the same song, it's the same song.

Oh, come on. Sgt. Pepper is his album, but anyway.

I get a kick out of how the throwaway 60's lyrics reveal his actual inner creep. It never occurred to him what he was giving away with lines like

Quote:
Time after time you refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind if I knew what I was missing

In 2022, such concerns are easily addressed with keystroke logging software and a few AirTags.

Thanks! I just gave "Flower Duet" a listen on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qx2lMaMsl8) although I had to flee when those high voices got a little too piercing. I hear what you mean.

If you know YWSM and still didn't hear it here, that is great news! It means I have in fact succeeded in creating something new from something old. But trust me, it's there, and with the right software you could recover it, like the identity of the swirly-faced guy in Thailand a few years back.

I like the idea of turning some existing classic artwork into your own with many new creative ideas and production, much better than doing a lame cover version. This is very fascinating post-modern pop song with interesting chords and melodical changes. I really like the harmonies and backing vocal parts. Definitely original and even futuristic music.
