I think BIAB is really underrated for these "lo fi" style jazz hop beats that seem to be really popular. I'm surprised to see so many using copyrighted samples that claim the beats. This particular track was made using a Bossa Nova style in BIAB, unfortunately I rendered and didn't save the file for particulars. I basically took the track and edited it heavily in LUNA using studer 800 tape and running it through the softube amp emulations. I added crushed drums that I played live through decapitator saturation. Added vocals and some edits to the audio.

Basically scooped out a lot of mids and tried to make it as lo fi as possible.

Only mastering was precision limiter in UAD plugins. Lemme know what y'all think.

I'm not really familiar with the genre, but it's pretty much what I would expect it to sound like. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Andrew,
Nice easy going "lofi" track which is a bit more jazzy than mainstream of the genre. I think it might need some more blending/mixing as instruments feel somewhat separated. Thank you for sharing.

We agree with David.
It's not our style, but it sounds nice.

Thanks all! I'm just having fun with BIAB song creation as it's new to me.

@rustyspoon would you suggest more reverb or a specific mixing tip to blend better? I've been experimenting with LCR mixing with is somewhat divisive so maybe that's why it seems that way. Some like it some hate it!

YerLipsAreBlue,

Lovely jazzy arrangement that accomplishes what you were aiming for in your description! I am not very familiar with the Lo-Fi approach but from what I do know it sounds like you had a good result here! Loved the tune! Thanks, Torrey

Lo-fi music in general is always so soothing to listen to, it's definitely go-to for working on writing. Thanks for sharing, it was a lovely lo-fi piece!

I wasn't familiar with the genre so I had to google it and get an education. I had the same impression of your track that Misha (Rustyspoon) had. I was wondering if you had mixed "even" and "swing" groove real tracks? The separate elements are lovely but they don't blend to my ears, and it seems to be mainly the drum that bothers me. It may only be a case of having to swap out the drums for the correct groove. I realize from your liner notes that you used a realstyle so that seems unlikely, but it's my only clue. You might have to start again from square one, if it's worth it to you. I'd be interested in knowing what the fix would be. Good luck!
