Don't know anything about it, Sam, but I listened to the video sample he had, and listening to him talk for more than 10 minutes would cause me to throw the disks out the window.
I don't find it to be a very professionally done presentation. Now, that may not be the case, but you know what they say about 'first impressions.' My first impression is that the guy isn't a professional lecturer nor instructor. He may be a very good engineer, but transferring that information from his head to yours is the most important aspect of your purchase. If he doesn't do that very well, because he stutters, repeats himself, and assumes that you already know what he's talking about, then you aren't going to be interested in what he's saying.
Also, do you use Pro Tools? This seems to be geared solely towards Pro Tools, so if you don't have it, you'll probably only get a little bit of use from it, since he seems to be focusing on Pro Tools plug ins in the first few minutes of the video. Good instruction, unless it is specifically designed for one piece of software, should work for everyone and everything.
My two cents
Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Hi Sam. I completely agree with Gary.
I know everything he said in the video, but if I didn't, I'm not sure I would have learned it from him. His screen was hard to see, there is nothing to highlight what he is doing with the mouse, and the musical examples were few. At the end of the video, he EQed the bass and drums in about one-tenth the time it should take, burying the bass. Ouch.

Sam, I'm sure the DVD probably has better than YouTube 360p quality - so I wouldn't let that bother me. After listening and watching, I'm going to disagree with Gary and Matt - because I'm guessing you didn't know the stuff the speaker introduced in the 7 minute section.
I agree that he's not a polished speaker, but you will probably learn something valuable about gain staging from this particular lesson, and why it makes sense to run mixes as near zero as possible - at least in a live setting, and if you are going to mix using a control surface (which I'm guessing you do not have).
He also makes very good points about EQing tracks in a mix, not solo'ed.
If you can get past the fact that it's pro-tools centric and migrate the concepts to PG products (which, if you understand the concepts behind his talk, you should be able to do) then I would say it might actually be a decent investment. Certainly it's cheaper than signing up for classes at SAE.
For homework before buying the DVD, spend time on the SAE site - there's lots of good material there.
I'll come around to a main question however - why are you interested in this DVD? The answer should not be something along the lines of "I want to do this for a living". If the answer is, however, to improve upon your existing mixing skills, then I say go for it. Don't go to Starbucks for 10 days and you've paid for it.

Why would one go to Starbucks anyway? Not to drink good coffee 'cause they don't have that.
Sam, I watched the video. I was glad I knew what he was talking about, otherwise I would have had a hard time to follow his monolog. He may know a lot about recording, mixing and producing, I won't touch that. But the man cannot TEACH. He is not able to bring his knowledge across. Therefor I would not spend my money on this product.
What Rockstarnot said: browse YouTube. Also don't forget Google; there are many very useful sites that give you the information you want FREE!.

WienSam allow me to comment as follows. a lot of the old pro AE's that did the big classic hit songs n who i respect ..many were self taught. many were true engineers/building n modifying audio consoles etc while recording hits. so i'm frankly sceptical that a recording school or on line courses can teach the "engineering mojo".
many people believe (i believe erroneously) that all they gotta do is go take a course n buy top flight recording gear and a hit is assured. unfortunately the recording gods laugh at this instant coffee approach. i agree with the other folks..lots of info if one googles. without spending money.
anyhoo..every song is different. just cos a AE says i eq my vocs or drums this way in a course or that way might only apply to that particular song he was working on and what that song needed. your song might need a different treatment.
so in conclusion i feel best bet is just to get down n dirty n record as many different talents as possible. thats how lots of the old AE's started n honed themselves.
we all struggle with self doubt mate. am i good enough ?? does this song suck ?? do i need a course at recording school ?? would buying that big audio console help me ?? when the true answer is..there aint no perfect answer. or magic instant coffee solutions. ive personally found self doubt can be a killer on creativity, cos one becomes paralysed by analysis n second guessing. best bet...one does the best one can and thats all one can do. the TRUTH is songs are just hard work. with no easy solutions. so sam..stride out n just do yer thing with a modicum of gear.
retired puter engr....powertracks on amd......NICE ! "what is the black art of audio engineering ?" my silly songs...motagator.com/bmanning see my tips in the tips section.

Hey folks! All I wrote was 'it looks interesting'...
The ad keeps appearing on my FaceBook page and I was curious. Frankly, the quality of the YouTube vids is very poor and there is probably far more to be learned (and I have) from the BIAB tutorials and vids. Whilst it would be far cheaper than a course at SAE, I was more curious as to whether or not anybody on the forum has actually heard of this guy before.
I did, however, learn something from the first vid about Trim. As it happens, I had been doing this intuitively in my own mixes in any case!
And, as an experienced educator, no. I don't think this man can teach

The man has a nice list of credits to his name. Even if you learn one thing that helps you make better mixes and masters it will be worth it. I noticed on the site you can buy individual lessons, so you might try that and see if you like it before you buy the whole set. I know mixing courses work, my father in law took one and it made a world of difference in his mixes, it was years ago so I am sure they do not still sale the one he took. I know I have learned a lot just from reading and studying what others do in situations.Someone said most engineers learned on their own. The truth is most well known engineers, the ones who make the music you hear on the radio have either worked under another famous engineer or they have studied the works of other engineers at some type of school.
