I assume this means all is working. Thanks for confirming. This was a lot of fun to play with.

Dan Can't view it. My WPS Oftice software wants to take over my Google account and by its own statement 'delete' my files. Bests Ian
Got it! It was my android software being naughty! So, I've fired up the PC and no problem. Lots of fun. Oddly, both versions work - if you close one eye and squint . lol. Seriously, I have no idea what the attachment shows, I'm a RT kind of person, but the finished result is polished and does sound like real instruments. Bests ian

Ian, Big smile MIDI is not going to go away. Green.sty is a BIAB midi set #61 from 2011. But the sounds I have paired the MIDI with are 2022! The melody track in that 2011 demo file simply can not be done with RTs. [..actually that may be a challenge to anyone who would like to try to new Playable RTs.
So don't rule out this Old time Midi stuff... Dan

I won't (big wink) Since I got TTS-1 my plinky-plonky midi sounds do sound much better. Bests Ian

The "old" music is really beautiful, a gem for the ear. The new version is nice, except for what we think is some sort of cat But maybe it's a gem too, if replaced by another RT.
And yes, there are some beautiful midi tracks. If we use midis, we always choose super midi tracks. Some of them (especially piano) sound just as good as some RTs.

I left the cat in since I thought that is what the kids are liking these days.

I agree with Joe, midi is not going anywhere. Almost every dollar I have spent on computer-generated music in the last few years has been on midi. Toontracks for example, and amp simulation programs.
Having said that, I turned on one of the custom tube guitar amps I built a while back. What came to mind was that the digital simulations were very useful but none of them sounded like a real tube amp.
That is not a good thing or a bad thing, it just is what it is.
I really like the piano sounds produced by several of the software programs I own. I also have a friend who lives near my house in Marathon. He has two super high-quality grand pianos. Nothing I own comes anywhere close to being able to produce the sounds that come out of those two pianos.
Lovely sounding music at any rate Dan.

“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig? “Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”
In this case I am just the messenger. This lovely melody is a BIAB demo. But I hated to see it buried and forgotten in an old midi file. So I tried to bring it back to life for a bit.
The new portion was an experiment that I agree, could work a bit better if I remove the Cat (as pointed out). I think I will do that to put this piece to rest.

I certainly enjoyed that ... Enough to listen right through several times. Really nice to get a range of style and texture. Excellent.
I too found the cat/duck/electric-wah-guitar a bit angular, but it does make a very different focus, which is interesting, and as I believe the intent was to compare MIDI vs RT styles up front and personal it seems appropriate enough.
The false ending at the back of chorus two felt a little odd, but I guess again that's down to comparing the two styles and having to deal with how to get back from RT to MIDI.
What I did find uncomfortable was the change in reverb, particularly on the piano, in chorus three. It changed from intimate to large hall, which for me personally came as a bit of a bump. Perhaps that was inevitable in chorus three to deal with the large string section. Maybe the early sections could be moved into a larger space? Not too large, though, that intimate piano sound is nice.
What piano, what strings, please?

I sure do appreciate all the comments guys. I did the best I could on this but would like to take another full pass and your input is helpful.
You may be a bit surprized by one of these. That Chorus run lead line is very fast and I looked for something other than piano which could pull it off. I found only one thing I have with the "shorts" needed.

Lead Line (Chorus 3) - Harp - Spitfire BBC Symphony
Ah, right, that certainly explains the very different sound. Now I know it's a harp, it's very obviously a harp. Obviously I allowed myself to be persuaded by that "Demo - Extended .... Piano 787.." that it was 'the' piano.
I'd enlarged the image to see the arrangement and the details on the left were off the screen.
I did wonder about the different tonalities of the piano lead and accompaniment. Naively I presumed one piano. The Hammersmith is nice and zingy. I like that a lot.

FWIW, when I'm looking for a piano alternative, I quite often go for vibrophone or an electric piano.

There's a little dissonance at 0.25'0.26 mark - is that written in? To my ears the funky wah's a little too bright n loud tending to cramp the style of the melody instruments. Nice hybrid.

I have taken out all the stops and reworked this song down to the note level (including Control Changes). New Hardware and new Software used to bring this to life. Hours and hours of tweeking and listening. In fact I actually played some of the content which achieved my goal of "more of me in my music". For perspective, the original version was thrown together in a day while this version has taken me literally weeks! I did everything I know how to do with everything I have got. This illustrates exactly were my mixing skills and my ears are, at this time in my life. The cat is gone!
Before I posted this I listened one more time to the original. Made me quesiton my return on investment , but the learning experience was huge for me.
I am so happy to complete my work here. This one can now go into the closet and I can move on to the next.
