Here is some more experimentation. https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677/rocks-in-the-riverWhat I find interesting here is that (in general) BiaB allows/forces individual RealTracks to separate and shine thru rather that everybody stepping on everybody else in one big mash up. You can hear this at around 1:10 and a couple other places where the electric piano and nylon acoustic guitar give each other space to breathe, I find this fore-thought very cool! Kudos to the developers that programed this in, it must have taken quite a bit of planning to get this right. I wonder if there is a setting that allows one to adjust the amount of separation.

Steve, you are picking up on that bass very quickly, your part was perfect. You have a good groove going on here.
To nitpick:
1-the piece was to short.
2--you need a lead line, i.e. melody. BiaB can generate a melody.
You have a great start and doing the above will take it over the top. YMMV

Hey Mario, Many thanks for the words of confidence, and no nitpick at all. Constructive Feedback + Practice = Growth + Fun  Music is such a wonderful thing, on the one hand there is freedom to explore within a song but you can't explore too much. I think my role is to find the pocket and stay there with the drummer. Lately I've been targeting 40-48 bars, and I agree that's a bit short. Going forward maybe I should target 48-56 bars. I've never used the melody maker in BiaB. Will that produce an intro for me?

Good start, but as Mario said, it needs some melody.
My suggestion on the Melodist: once you've got something you like, edit it into something better.

David, the problem is I can't get something I like out of the Melodist to begin with. Therefore I have nothing to edit. Not sure if I need to dive into the catacombs of the settings tree or what. But I could spend days and days trying the near-infinite permutations of the settings and preferences in hunt and peck mode. I even watched a video on it to no avail.
