My original 80G drive is also acting up. I use both USB connectors. However it hapens if I plug it in with the computer on. I get a warning message of high current draw and the computer shuts it off,ie it won't show up in "my computer". If I plug it in first and then turn on the computer it's OK. I suspect high current draw on initial spin up of the disc. By plugging in first the disc has a chance to spin up prior to Windows being awake. The new 160G drives don't do this. Different manufacturer on the new ones.
