Hello Folks,
I started this song in mid December but it was derailed a bit by some problems the singers encountered. the 1st vocalist was keen to get a perfect take and that takes & takes & takes time. In the end I posted an unmastered version of that mix and started with a different singer. This one was keen to do the song but was busy with their own projects & life but he finished things last week.
I constructed the video across the months - bit by bit to keep me interested.
BIAB was the writing tool as well as providing the drummer.
Bruno Royal Artist single coil on one side, Squire Bullet Mustang on the other ...both through a Marshall head & cab.
The intro lead is the Bruno into a Big Muff clone then the Marshall.
The solo & outro leads, by the fabulous Peter Fulham, with an amazing Variaxe.
Eric Drabwell adds 12 string acoustic to the verse and Les Paul through a Marshall for the chorus.
Bass is the usual Vantage through a BDI21.
The mastering added some nice aggression.
Stephen Smith is the singer...fab job too.

Lyric as requested:
V1
The harvest starts again
Wide eyed in the rain
Same strange fruit
Same sick seed
The harvest march again
Wild eyed in the rain

C1
Standing on the world's edge
Standing on the window ledge
Push passed the truth
Burying their youth
Ignore the real crime
One last time
That's what I see
That's what I know
Just to
Begin with.

V2
Losing sleep my baby?
You're wide awake in bed
And there are no 2nd prizes,
No, no 2nd prize
Same strange fruit
Same sick seed
Same anonymous source
The Qpons that you need

C2
Standing on the knife's edge
Standing on the window ledge
Push past as truth
Arm their youth
We've pardoned the real crime
Profit takes every time
That's when I see
That's when I know
Just to
Go on with.
solo
v3
The harvest starts again
Wide eyed in the rain
Same strange fruit
Same sick seed
The harvest march again
Wild eyed in the rain

C3
Standing on the ocean's edge
Standing on the tidal ledge
Push alternate truth
Burying our youth
We've all bought the big lie
As earth dies
That's all I see
That's all I know
Just to
end with.

v4
Losing sleep my baby?
You're wide awake in bed
And there are no 2nd prizes,
No, no 2nd prize
Same strange fruit
Same sick seed
Same anonymous source
The Qpons that you need

So good, Ray. Your videos are as creative as your songs. Man, that bass is so good. Yeah, Peter screams in such a wonderful musical way. Yes, everyone did a great job making this a super track for sure.

Enjoy whatever happens!

ray,

Epic. The truth is the truth. All you can do is to continue repeating that message.
Since we are no longer allow to teach history (here), it is likely to repeat itself...

The mixing and mastering on this is excellent. A truly cohesive sound.

Everyone does their jobs well. Bass, guitars, vocals - all excellent.

Keep it up!!

I like things like the unexpected transitions from flutes and vox into raging guitar. Some of this is a little “chordy" but those are good opportunities to focus in on the bass line. And a disintegrating ending like this one has is always a delight.

I can’t watch the video and listen, though, the 200 Motels effects are too distracting.

PS – Les Paul Studio! Mine is a cheap model, no glossy finish.

Wow - you've been busy. Another top notch production. Good song. The music is outstanding. The vocalist did good. The video is very complex and interesting. Great job. What a mix too.

Thanks Marty,
I retracked the bass a bunch of times trying to get the tone & timing right - still needed so DAW magic though.

Thanks FJ,
Luckily the Public Education System in Australia is still quite robust and we're encouraged to create critical thinkers of the students. That can be a hard ask when the teachers were afforded the same opportunity BUT many are Life Long learners and address their own knowledge gaps to better teach.
I agree - the mastering is ace...that's Fran Ashcroft again. I gave him the 24 bit file with a fair amount of head room and asked that it be aggressive without brickwalling it to 0 dynamics. He sent me a couple of versions which was cool.
It was a good "band" involving my room mate from teachers college with whom I hadn't actually played "in a room" with between 1977 and Dec last year, Peter F from hereabouts as well as Stephen from Nashville.

Mark,
Thanks!
"chordy" is pretty funny for me to read...I learnt a dozen chords and the rest are cheats, inventions and "power chords" but i know what you mean.
200 Motels was cheap & so are my FX editing skills. I threw the kitchen sink at the to avoid putting my mug in it - at least I avoided that part. Peter & I are the unseen.

Thnaks jptx3,
It may seem that way but the backing for this was done by mid December and the video was completed a fortnight ago...the former waiting for vocals & the latter for the master.

I do have a few things running concurrently but I am an old retired person filling my days in the waiting room.

I think the distortion was a little heavy-handed throughout the entire song and a cleaner sound in parts could have provided better emphasis. Otherwise, OK.

There's a lot going on here, but I'm not sure I'm getting it... Much of the lyrics, I can't make out. G.B.H.???. Lots of disturbing images. I guess it's just not my thing... I thought Peter's skillful guitar licks were cool.
The driving rhythm guitars were very well played, but unrelenting...
A huge collaborative effort, no doubt.

Ray, you and the other musicians should be very proud of this one.

Excellent message, vocal, and mix.

Loved it.

I like this. Rock that makes you think and reflect on our reality. What has come before and what always seems to be repeating itself.....

I had to listen on my buds to get a grasp of the lyrics. Providing them would make it easier to understand the song.

Musically, you have a nice mix.... Guitars sound good. Love that crunchy distortion you get from the Marshall and the Bruno/Squire guitars. Back in the day I had a Big Muff Pi..... that was an essential. Vox are a bit low but that's normal in rock so it's all good.

Nice work.

Why thank you AT.
It's a Marshall fest through & through - except for the 12 string.
The intention was to provide dynamics through degrees of heavy handedness.

Thanks Dave,
The basic mix wasn't hard but then I did tweak it almost daily for a month or so after that ...I needed to STOP and deciding that was the hard part as usual. The arrival f the final vocal did that for me.

Hello Bloc-Head,
Grievous Bodily Harm.
Unrelenting guitars was the intention...no relief to match the lyric...only the leads resolve for the same reason.
Yes, Peter did a fabulous job and stands out.

Thanks Mario,
I'm pleased with it and the singer's response to the finished piece was one word: "Rock".
That covers it I think.
